BYD Atto 2 crossover EV unveiled in China; International launch next year

Chinese EV maker, BYD has revealed the new Atto 2 crossover in China. The new BYD Atto 2 is said to be a small value-focused electric crossover and will go on sale in the Chinese market later this year.

As the name suggests, the new BYD Atto 2 will be positioned below the popular Atto 3. The new Atto 2 is said to be based on BYD's third-gen electric car platform 'e-platform 3.0'. In China, the EV will be sold as the 'Yuan Up' and will measure 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width and 1,675 mm in height.

While the carmaker is yet to officially unveil the details of its upcoming EV, regulatory filings reveal that the BYD Atto 2 will come with a single electric motor at the front, producing either 94 BHP or 174 BHP. The EV will be powered by its own Blade battery with either 32 kWH or 45.1 kWh capacity offering 300 km and 400 km of range, respectively.

The BYD Atto 2 is also expected to go on sale in Europe sometime in 2025. Reports suggest the Atto 2 in the UK could be priced at around 30,000 GBP.

The Atto 2 will take on the likes of the Jeep Avenger and the Volkswagen ID.2X.

Re: BYD Atto 2 crossover EV unveiled in China; International launch next year

I had recently called up BYD in Mumbai to enquire about the pricing of their cars. While talking about the E6, I asked if any updates were in the offing considering the bland interiors and lack of features in a 30L car. The salesman mentioned that there was no such plan but they were planning to launch an Atto with a smaller battery to make it more affordable. Guess he wasn't kidding. Seems like there has been some internal communication regarding this car being launched here eventually. Also, TATA and M&M have about a year give or take to get their house right. Once BYD, VW, the Koreans, Suzuki start coming out with niggle free and/or feature loaded cars with better batteries the party will be over for our homegrown cos.

Atto 3 itself comes with a smaller 50kwh pack, I think he is talking about that not Atto 2.

Atto 3 in India currently comes with the top-spec capacity of about 60.48 kWh. However, I have also heard about ~49.92 kWh options being offered in the future (with lower price) which are already available outside (Thailand for reference).

2025 BYD Yuan Up / Atto2

Dimensions:

Width: 1,830 mm
Height: 1,675 mm
WB: 2,620 mm

Built on BYD's e-Platform 3.0, it is also equipped with the well-known Blade battery technology.

Quote:
The Atto 2 range will consist of two engines similar to those of the Chinese version of the BYD Dolphin. On the entry step there is a 70 kW (95 hp) engine and, as a more performance alternative, a 130 kW (177 hp) engine. Always front-wheel drive.

The "heart" of BYD's new SUV is an LFP battery. Two battery sizes will be available, a basic 32 kWh battery and a higher 45.1 kWh battery size. The maximum speed that the Atto 2 will be able to reach will be 160 km/h. In terms of range, with the small battery you will be able to drive up to 301 kilometers according to the CLTC cycle applied in China. A figure that increases to 401 km with the large battery.

BYD really needs to get its pricing act together in India. The Atto 3 competes with the MG ZS EV in mamy international markets and are priced at par. Paying a full 8 lakhs more for the Atto 3 feels criminal. You can buy a Comet EV for that price.

What's the point of making batteries in India for 20 years if you can't take advantage of that presence to reduce customs and import duties? One would've thought that spending 2 decades in India would've taught BYD how price sensitive the market is.

And the best part is... There is a HUGE +20L gap between where the ZS EV ends and the Ioniq 5 begins. And right now, because the Atto 3 is priced halfway with not enough cred, value or confidence, it feels like a bad deal. I don't even know if their spares will be reasonable or equally overpriced.

If someone can bring a sub-30L EV with fantastic features, it will give the market exactly the liftoff it needs and is waiting for.

I would LOVE to see a Seltos EV and a Creta EV and an XUV700 EV fight it out with a 20%-cheaper-than-today BYD Atto 3.

The Brezza EV that should’ve been.

I know Maruti is working on eVX but considering how 20L+ Maruti products do in market, I don’t know how good that’ll be.

Brezza EV would be essentially emulation of the Nexon EV formula that worked wonders for Tata.

Re: BYD Atto 2 crossover EV unveiled in China; International launch next year

BYD Yuan Up: BYD's entry-level electric SUV will be unveiled on March 5.

BYD Atto 2 crossover EV unveiled in China; International launch next year-bydyuanpluschina-1.jpg

BYD Atto 2 crossover EV unveiled in China; International launch next year-bydyuanpluschina.jpg

BYD's cheapest electric SUV, the new Yuan Up will be launched on March 5 in China. Positioned just above the Dolphin, the new model will have an aggressive price proposition and will make its debut in the local market before reaching international destinations, including Brazil.

Based on the dedicated e-Platform 3.0 platform, Yuan Up can be characterized as a smaller, more affordable version of Yuan Plus. It will be priced very close to that of the Dolphin, being in the range of R$ 170,000 to R$ 200,000, which will probably make it the cheapest electric SUV in Brazil.

BYD's compact electric SUV measures 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, 1,675 mm in height and a wheelbase of 2,620 mm.

Inside, the Yuan Up catches the eye with a D-shaped steering wheel with four spokes and a unique Yuan (元) logo. In addition, the instrument panel is fully digital and has 8.8 inches. Right next to it, another generous swivel screen - this time 12.8 inches - houses the functions of the entertainment system.

In the list of equipment, the highlight is the presence of a head-up display (unusual in the price range of the model), seats covered in perforated leather and equipped with electric adjustments (driver and passenger), center console with wireless charging base, crystal gear selector and large cup holders. There are also physical buttons to control more immediate functions and commands, without the need to concentrate absolutely everything in the multimedia center.

Quote:
it is believed that the Yuan UP will have three versions in China, with engine options ranging from 95 hp to 177 hp of power, as well as batteries with 32 kWh or 45.1 kWh Blade technology. The range will be between 301 km and 401 km by the CLTC standard, respectively.

Re: BYD Atto 2 crossover EV unveiled in China; International launch next year

BYD's latest is called Yuan Up: it's 4.3 meters long, 100% electric and a real scandalous price.

BYD will end the year as the world's largest electric car manufacturer.

In Europe, the BYD Yuan Up could sit at the lower end of the C-SUV segment. 4.31 meters long, 1.83 meters wide and 1.67 meters high for a wheelbase of 2.62 meters. From the inside, we find ourselves in front of a well-presented cabin where, once again, digitalization takes control. Button minimalism clashes with two large screens. The first and smallest one is in front of the driver, carrying out instrumentation work. The second and most important one is inserted into the dashboard. Through it, all the functionalities of the car can be managed.
Quote:
On a mechanical level, the Yuan Up is mainly focused on the urban environment and, like the rest of the family, features the typical BYD 3.0 platform. The entry-level version has a 32 kWh capacity LFP battery that allows it to homologate a range of 301 kilometers under the CLTC homologation cycle. The most cutting-edge and longest-range options integrate an LFP battery developed by the house with 45.12 kWh of capacity that allows it to announce an homologated range of 401 kilometers (CLTC cycle). In terms of power, it is capable of delivering between 93 and 174 horsepower with the always presence of a single engine.
BYD has confirmed that the Yuan Up will be available in a price range between 96,800 and 119,800 yuan, which at the currency exchange rate comes to between 12,400 and 15,300 euros. Obviously, we would not see these tariffs in Europe if BYD finally decides to export it to our market. However, the final figure could be around 20,000 euros, which would be a hard blow for the Dacia Spring, currently the cheapest electric car in Spain.
