Hyundai Ioniq 7 MPV near-production ready prototype spied testing ahead of global unveil

Hyundai is working on adding a new model to its 'Ioniq' series. The new electric MPV, Ioniq 7, is expected to be unveiled globally soon. It will go on sale in international markets sometime during the second half of 2024.

Ahead of its global unveil though, the P1 prototype version of the Ioniq 7 has been spotted testing in South Korea. The P1 prototype indicates it's the first produced vehicle in the assembly line, featuring almost the full specifications as the final production version.

As seen from the images, the Ioniq 7 carries forward a similar design language as its other EV siblings. This includes the minimalistic design, pixel LED dual-level headlights & LED tail lights that arch over the boot lid. The MPV also gets a sloping roofline and squared-off wheel arches. Inside, the Ioniq 7 makes use of sustainable & eco-friendly materials.

Technically, the Hyundai Ioniq 7 could borrow its components from the Kia EV9. This includes 76.1 kWh and 99.8 kWh battery pack options, paired with either a single or dual-motor setup. The Ioniq 7 MPV will also come packed with a host of smart tech and comfort features.

Production of the Hyundai Ioniq 7 MPV is scheduled to begin in July 2024 at the brand's South Korean facility.

Re: Hyundai Ioniq 7 MPV near-production ready prototype spied testing ahead of global unveil

EV 9 is priced over USD60k in the US and expected to be priced around INR80 lakh in India. Ioniq 7 could be priced around the INR60-80 lakh mark. While these are great cars, they are nowhere close to the average ticket sizes for MPVs seen in India, even for the higher end ones like Toyota Innova Hyryder or Kia Carnival is around 40 - 50 lakh. Not sure when will EVs be competitively priced vs IC cars - the current value proposition does not favor EVs at all. Tata is working towards it but they have their own niggles to sort first and the IC platforms repurposed for EVs takes away the space..

EV penetration in India is going to lag the levels in China (1/3rd already) and Europe by a wide margin - my estimate is around 30-40% by 2030 or so.

Re: Hyundai Ioniq 7 MPV near-production ready prototype spied testing ahead of global unveil

Hyundai Ioniq 9 Three-Row SUV to be built in America. Will have the new extended-range electric vehicle, or EREV.

the name of the new SUV, which was previously called the Hyundai Ioniq 7. Unveiled as the Hyundai Seven Concept in 2021, the production version is expected to be seen at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this year.

A modern take on the concept pioneered by the BMW i3 and Chevrolet Volt, an EREV is essentially a battery-powered EV that also packs a gas engine, but only as a generator to recharge that battery pack. The gas engine does not drive the wheels.
Quote:
The new EREV will combine the advantages of internal combustion engines and EVs". "Hyundai Motor has developed a unique new powertrain and power electronics system to enable four-wheel drive with the application of two motors. The operation is powered solely by electricity, similar to EVs, with the engine being used only for battery charging."

The company expects to achieve equal profitability on its entire powertrain lineup, including ICE, hybrids, EREVs and EVs by 2030.
