EV's have become like mobile launches, almost every 6 months there are price revisions so could be the case with EV's. Even i have booked punch EV but considering the price drop in nexon and tiago EV's is tempting me to go for the tiago vs the puch due to the higher pricing.

Isn't the other way around? Punch EV comes with the USB C fast charging support (perhaps only on top varients?) while Tiago EV only has USB A.

I was expecting 45w on punch ev. But on the top end vehicle I checked(empowered +S LR ACFC) at dealership has 5V 3A sticker.

Also the demo Tiago had 45W written near it.

I asked tata adviser, but he had no clue. Looks like he also never noticed before.

Such news items coupled with other recent posts on Team BHP plus the price drops on other models; all creating doubts about my decision to book Punch EV. I like the do not like the idea of buying a half-cooked product.

Re: Tata Punch.ev Review

For all new age vehicles with never before seen levels of technology, I believe its makes so much more sense to wait out at least 6 months. Sufficient time for the manufacturer to squash all bugs post feedback from the first time user.

In case of Tata, the entire systems in the 2024 Safari, Nexon and Punch have been in the market for hardly 2-3 months. So i believe real word testing is still ongoing in a way and the plethora of consequent issues being reported. Tata will get it right surely but posy adequate feedback from the early adopters. The desire to get/flaunt the newest exciting car on the block results in a heart winning over the head situation

The Tiago, the last gen Nexon EV were fairly stable with no major usability issues.

As a limited edition buyer of Tata Aria. Please listen to this guy.

I also own a nexon ev but I bought it after 2 yrs of launch.

I believe that Punch and Nexon MR are overpriced by 1.2 lacs at this point.

Not only will you gain discounts but you will also get a better sorted product if you wait a few months.

Re: Tata Punch.ev Review

Total waste of time going to Tata and asking for a TD of Punch EV. I went to the Singasandra Tata Showroom which is next to VW and en route Mahindra Service Centre.

The Punch EV looks nice no doubt. And definitely looks better finished than its ICE brother.

But the guys in the showroom are least interested in selling their wares. This time also they made me wait and while the front office person was trying to reach their ‘advisors’ not even one of them was picking up the calls. I think she tried 5 of them.

The last time I went there was about 2 months ago with my Dad to try and TD the Nexon EV. That time they made us wait 30-40min and finally they said they had lost the keys!

If this is the visible state of affairs when it comes to treatment of customers who go to their showroom, there is no wonder that their reputation is so poor.

I personally would find it very hard to buy or trust a Tata Vehicle. Because this kind of attitude, is also indicative of the lack of care that is one may very likely to experience at the time of servicing.

And I, for one, am not willing to take such a punt.

I am also very disappointed with Tata dealers.

I had pre booked the vehicle at (Sree Gokulam, Chennai) when it was announced (5th Jan), and since then have been requesting the dealer for the test drive.

I had to follow up so many times for the test drive and to have a look at the seaweed green colour car to finalize my choice.

We visited dealer and saw the Demo vehicle on 19th, but TD was not available as it was waiting for RTO approvals. By then people from other regions have already started
sharing there ownership review of cars, and here I was still waiting for TD. Understanding that there is no point in waiting, I decided to go ahead with empowered oxide colour
and send email to confirm punch.ev empowered+ S LR model on 25th Jan. I also requested the dealer to acknowledge the email with the expected delivery date.

There was no acknowledgment email, I waited for a week and then send an escalation email, to which there was a response but the model and colour of my choice was incorrect.

I reverted to the mail asking to correct the information and acknowledge, but as expected there was no response from them.

On Feb 7th, I was told over phone that the my assigned vehicle has reached the dealership and I can pay the amount so that they will start the Registration works. I rejected this and told that I need a test drive and I wanted to do a PPI/PDI.

The dealer tried to convince me for payment by telling that they have completed PDI and it is fine. If there is any complaints they will assign me another vehicle immediately.

So on Feb 13th, I took the test drive and was happy with the car. ( I could not test drive the sports mode, since the battery was low and the vehicle refused to engage sports mode.

The seller told the car needs to be in 50% or 70% to shift to sports mode. )

Anyway, I decided to do the PDI on 15th Feb in day light and make the neccessary payments. I visited the yard with my wife and checked for external dent or paint colour.

Next, I checked on the chasis number stamp and the model number was "Empowered+ S ACFC LR". I told the dealer that i dont want ACFC, but he said that all the top end models will come with that stamp and I can go ahead with the remaining Pre payment Inspection. Spend some 45 mins to check everything was perfect, except for the rear defogger socket everything was good, so I gave him confirmation to go ahead with the registration. I collected their bank information to initiate the payment process.

Then to my shock the dealer told that the car is indeed an ACFC (Fast charger) model and that it cannot be sold without the fast charger. They told me that all the vehicles that have in stock and in trasit are the same. So they need to make a fresh order at plant and have to get it assigned, and after that it will take some days for transit and registration. They didnt give a confirmation on the dates, but says it might be 3 to 4 weeks, but not ready to give an exact date.

Tried calling other dealers in Chennai, but looks like none of them have them available in inventory. One dealer told that they can deliver in 2 weeks.

But from the experience with the Sree Gokulam tata dealer, I am not very confident. This is not how I wanted my first car purchase to be, and now contemplating to put off the purchase.

Re: Tata Punch.ev Review

I had booked a Punch EV on the launch date.

- Asked about TD: No response
- Asked about variant change: No response
- Asked about delivery date: No response (my booking was among top 5-7 for dealership)

I made an empty threat asking SA to tell me formalities to cancel my booking: No response

Out of curosity, logged into Tata EV website to see any update about my booking.

Guess what I found: Booking Cancelled on 30th Jan 2024

Checked my bank a/c, booking cancelled but refund yet to be issued.

So, this dealer/company said TATA to me before the EV journey could begin.

I just had another longer TD and can confirm this isn't true. I drove nearly 20kms and all in sport mode. The battery at start was 44% and I finished at 36% this was with 5 on-board and AC+ventilated seats being used.

The car continues to impress and the ride at the back seat was perfect this time. No sharp jolts felt inside the cabin when exiting flyovers. However, I noticed a few bugs:
  • Autohold stopped working abruptly. I had to switch off and start the car post which it worked just fine.
  • The tata logo along with the illumination on the steering mounted controls also had a mind of its own. It would go off after a few mins and the SA explained its normal. I can understand the logo being off, but the steering mounted controls should stay illuminated at all times.

The SA was honest enough to admit that the vehicle does have a few niggles/bugs. I also showed the post on this thread where a Punch EV wouldn't shift, he claimed they faced the same issue with their TD vehicle and they solved it by disconnecting the auxiliary battery temporarily. Don't know what to make of it.

This is surprising as I was offered a TD over a phone call.I had called a dealer 4kms from my home who gave me a TD twice, but somehow a dealer located faraway got hold of my number and called me to offer a TD even on a weekend for however long I wanted. I politely declined as I'd driven the Punch enough to make up my mind. I can share the SAs contact if you want. I wonder if there's an inventory pile-up at the dealers' or demand is not as strong as anticipated considering the dealers are following up regularly and also offering more than one TD.

Re: Tata Punch.ev Review

Hello,

Finally, I took delivery of my Punch EV Empowered Plus S ACFC variant of Thursday.

Like many others here, I was also in doubt about the niggles and other teething issues that the product might have, but after repeated test drives, chat with few friends who already own Tata EV’s, and given the fact that its 3rd generation of Tata EV, I was convinced that atleast the product basics are sorted. Moreover, its strictly for city usage as we already have 2 other ICE cars in family.

This car replaces my S-Cross Diesel 2017. It had run 1,15,000 kms. It was in great condition, but given the unpredictable future of diesel vehicles specially in Delhi NCR, and the fact that I was getting a great value for it, I thought it would be wise to replace it.

Personally I found the ride quality better than Sonet (I was considering it). Also, the GTX varient of Sonet was costing me 17 lacs OTR, so 16.5 lacs for Punch EV made much more financial sense.

Will keep you guys posted on my detailed drive experience in days to come.

Thanks.

We visited the same showroom couple of weeks back on Sunday, 11AM. It was crowded (though it was a non-working day) and we got to test drive both Punch & Nexon after a wait o 5-10 mins. Thankfully both the cars had around 80% of charge left.

No follow-up calls till date, which makes me believe that the centre is short-staffed to meet the overwhelming market interest.

Yes. I got one from Acko. I showed it to the SA for a possible bargain. He couldn't match it. So I opted for external insurance for ~42k (including few Add-ons).

Re: Tata Punch.ev Review

There are multiple reports on punch .ev not shifting to drive mode, and dealer and service center is not yet able to fix the issue permanently. I think all of the reported issues are for top end variant that has auto hold functions.

But I dont see any of them reporting that issue on this forum. Does anyone here face similar issues?
