Re: Tata Punch.ev Review

With the ICE version doing good numbers, it is likely that the Tata Punch.ev will punch its way to the top of the sales chart. Hopefully, Tata Motors takes care of QC issues and delivers a product free of niggles.
Apart from that, Tata Punch is a compelling vehicle from an Indian automaker which is well suited to the Indian auto conditions. The ev version only adds to that with good feature additions which makes this even more attractive.

As seen in the Dec 2023 sales numbers, Tata dethroned Maruti for the top of sales chart. Now the latest addition to the punch lineup may make this a regular occurrence.

Piano black is another design element, which is doled out everywhere in interiors by car manufactures and should be limited. A few days old car can attract these many scratches means imagine the pain to maintain this surface in long term.

Re: Tata Punch.ev Review

Lovely package. I do hope this does well in the market. This can be perfect urban car for long boring commutes. Quite a number of offices now provide wall sockets for trickle chare, some even provide 7.7 watt chargers in collaboration with a Charging Point Operator.

However there is one rant, and not specific to the Punch.ev either - its the missing spare wheel. This is a worrying trend across cars of all price segments. The roads across India are still in a bad state of repair- barring a few exceptions in every city. Construction debris is all over the place, small nails and other sharp objects abound. I, for one, will not be able to let my wife or kid drive around town in a car without a spare wheel. What if they get a damaged tire late in the evening ?? In India, often tyres are damaged in ways that can't be fixed with a "repair kit".

Anyone else thinks government needs to make this inclusion mandatory under law? I am OK with a low speed doughnut tire, but please put a spare wheel.

Re: Tata Punch.ev Review

How does it stack in terms of charging time and speed vs the Nexon considering quite a few internals are shared. Is this really just a smaller Nexon for all practical purposes? Also, the lack of spare wheel is a really silly cost cutting measure. Best to just shell out for an extra spare as soon as the car is bought and chuck the puncture kit in the trash.

Does this mean EVs are going to be more expensive from the coming financial year? I’m considering getting an ev primarily for city runabouts but am not in a tearing hurry but if they’ll be needlessly expensive in a few months then I’ll simply get one before April.

Re: Tata Punch.ev Review

Excellent review as always. I remember the initial ICE Punch reviewers kept saying that Punch EV will hit a 6. Seems it has. Great to see the resurgence of Tatas. They took lots of flak earlier for sub par products - seems theyve turned a corner.

Re: Tata Punch.ev Review

Review is more detailed and it was very helpful.

Rear seat is comfortable enough for me to sit behind my own driving position (I’m 5’10” tall).
Attachment 2563113

Hope the space you are mentioning the passenger side of the car.
In the image shown, the space is very less in Driver side rear and it will be little more reduced space if you sit on back of the driver compared to passenger side rear.

Re: Tata Punch.ev Review

Excellent and detailed review.

Per the ICN range test video, a 300km range is possible in normal driving conditions.

Yes indeed, its 400 Volt. Majority of the mass market cars are on 400 volts.

Re: Tata Punch.ev Review

Nice article, however the cons seemed to be cooked up to match with the number of pros.

For eg, #3 is talking about range anxiety and charging infrastructure. You cannot consider it as a negative for punch alone, but remains the same for all electric car including tesla.
#8 is talking about niggles since it is a new car, which is a repeat of #3

Request you not to do a balancing act, but actual negatives if any.

1) Is Frunk is a dealer fitment, which means it is an additional accessory that needs to be purchased separately? I am not able to find the availability and price of Frunk.

2) I am looking to purchase the Punch LR version. I have already seen the Empowered Oxide color on the demo vehicle, but I would like to check out the Seaweed green as well. However, no demo vehicles are available in this shade. How does this color look in person?

Are there screen guards or such available for such surfaces?

Re: Tata Punch.ev Review

Excellent and crisp review.
The joy of reading a review and listening to some "expert's" video, I can read it in my own voice.
And not some wispy pseudo accent 😀

And this below is why TBHP is simply miles ahead of the rest.

Quote:
One of the major problems we found while using this was while taking 3-point turns. While switching between D and R, you end up turning the knob a bit too much and switching to P. What’s worse is that once the car is in P, the electronic parking brake gets engaged. So, you have to disengage the parking brake and then move the dial to R
A user experience that makes a buyer aware of such minute details.
Kudos @Omkar

I have been driving a Nexon Max from last 1.5 years with the similar gear knob and honestly it gets easier as days go by as you learn it's tricks.
Also the trick to shift from P is not to turn the knob but to simply disengage Parking break and the gear automatically moves to N. Then you can quickly move to D or R and it's much much faster than rotating the knob and disengaging the parking brake. Also since it's electronic parking brake, for safety reason Tata has done the right thing by not disengaging the brakes automatically which might start the car to crawl on its own.
