Ford's new modular chassis could essentially allow you to build an EV like a life-size model kit American car giant, Ford, is said to have filed a patent application in the USA for a new modular chassis concept.
As per the patent, the modular chassis is built with a sub-frame around the vehicle's battery packs. The modular chassis gets adjustable cross-members, side rails, front and rear sub-frames with motors, suspension components and wheels; all of which can be bolted on. Once the rolling chassis is complete, a body can be simply bolted on top. While Ford's patent uses an F-150 for illustration, it states that the method could be applied to various other vehicles as well.
Ford suggests that the wheel and suspension assemblies can be inverted to raise or lower ground clearance for SUVs or sports cars, respectively. The patent even suggests "performance packages" consisting of different motors, which can be easily swapped out.
Having said that, the modular chassis tech is still just at its patent stages, with no confirmation whether or not Ford will actually bring it into practice.
