Should I get front parking sensors?

I am planning to get front sensors for my Nexon Max EV to avoid a pesky problem with stray dogs. Those damn fools do not move out even when the car is close to them because of the lack of engine noise and I do not have a way to know whether they have moved out without asking a bystander or getting out of the car. In other words they start behaving like our favorite Mahishashura but the latter at least is visible from the driver seat.

I am planing to get it done through the Tata service center and they are saying they can do it but so far they have only done this for Nexon Petrols. Since this involves wiring from the junction box, I am apprehensive if they may point this out to avoid warranty claims in future. The person there said they have emails from tata saying that it is okey but I am not sure.

Any suggestions ?

Only from the dealer and ideally, if it's part of the official accessory list.

Also check if they have a front camera as that might solve your problem better.

You must yourself check out these emails, even if it is on their computer. Do come back and update.

Tread carefully because its an EV.

I did ask for front camera (in fact I asked for the 360 deg in new nexon first) which they said is difficult to do as it might invalid warranty.

Final result: I chickened out of this and decided to live with this minor irritation for the next 8 years. In their own words, EV folks were reluctant. I should appreciate their truthfulness for they never tried to push me into making this modification.

Re: Should I get front parking sensors?

Have you thought of just honking at them at that point ? Dogs are not as bad as pigeons picking grain on the road, even as a vehicle approaches them. I have even run over one :(

Suggest just using the horn. A few times of doing that, then they will get used to a car coming up silently at them.

Use camera instead please.

A mod like that, these days small screen and camera bundles are available for cheap price. You could perhaps explore powering this using the 12V socket too if worried about warranty.

Some animals simply refuse to move from the way, it's only when you are very close to them, an inch away that they reluctantly move. It's like they have claimed that piece of road.

Difficult in residential area particularly at night time.

Not a long hoot, but just short ones. Dogs learn quite fast. Try it before you get any sensors. And also because the dogs are on the ground, and not like a foot high above ground.

Surprisingly they are willing to move out when an ICE car comes. I do not even have to honk when I drive my humble zen. So much for the "road presence" of the "muscular" Nexon. I think it is a combination of the sound --- the engine noise makes it sound like a (much bigger) animal --- and the strong smell of the petrol. In an EV even multiple honks cannot get them to move out and make way --- remember it is their territory and making way for a silent animal might do untold harm to their "road presence" among their peers.

This is precisely the problem with them. Since they are low on the ground it is difficult to see whether they have moved out or not. Particularly on narrow roads like the ones we find in Kerala.

Try something like this, before investing money on a full fledged set up. Helps you to decide whether front cameras are really useful.

Re: Should I get front parking sensors?

I encounter this issue even with my Honda Jazz.
The engine operates so quietly that on a bustling road, it often goes unnoticed by unsuspecting dogs. Honking appears to be the most effective means to prevent accidentally running over them.

Re: Should I get front parking sensors?

In the EU, it is mandatory for EVs (and hybrids) to make some noise when they are being driven at around 20km/h speed or below. It's called the Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS). This is in the interest of pedestrian safety, especially the vulnerable users. I think such a requirement should be part of type approval in India as well.

I think the dealer is right. My dealer also told me the same at the time of delivery and after few months later, I did find them installing official accessory (camera) on another car. If yours is the old Nexon, I'm not sure if that changes anything. But here is the link to the official accessory: https://ev.tatamotors.com/accessorie...u=885752101685
