Canada man waiting since more than a year for EV battery replacement A scary but all too real case of a man who's been waiting for longer than a year for a battery replacement for his 2017 Nissan Leaf. The problem? He was an early adopter and the kind of batteries in use now aren't even compatible with his car any longer, and the third party battery maker does not even make such batteries anymore. When companies tout warranties of eight or more years, it sounds great but the reality is quite different. Most car makers hope that the batteries last till the warranty runs out, but the longer the time that elapses within the warranty period, the slimmer become the chances that a compatible battery will actually still be produced.
With reports of multiple battery replacements well within the battery warranty period, in particular for Tata EVs, it'll be interesting to see if Tata will actually honor claims that are likely to pour in towards the end of warranty period. I suspect people will get some kind of a compensation voucher redeemable against a newer EV from their own stables, or a much lower monetary compensation in lieu of an actual battery replacement.
This also seriously calls into question the sensibility of buying a pre-owned EV. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toron...ment-1.7066842 |
