Just wanted to check if these tri-wheeler (don't want to call it 3 wheeler!) will be allowed on sea link, expressways (Mumbai has expressways within the city - eastern freeway, Atal Setu), etc. since only 4 wheelers are allowed on those roads. If these tri-wheeler are not allowed on such roads, then their effective usage in a city like Mumbai will be severely limited.

What's gonna be market of cars like this? Comet has barely made space in the market and so many cars are up for sale in various classified sections!

Even for taxi standpoint (which Gensol will try to push for under BluSmart), these cars will have limited utility especially in city like Bombay wherein quite a few roads mandate that only 4 wheelers can ply on them.

One thing that will be quite closely scrutinized will be battery tech and I am hopping that too me a head turner (to compensate for the design structure/choice).

Gensol EV receives 30,000 pre-orders for new electric vehicles at Mobility Expo

Gensol Electric Vehicles Private Limited announced it has secured 30,000 pre-orders for its newly unveiled electric vehicles, EZIO and EZIBOT, at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 in New Delhi. The subsidiary of Gensol Engineering Limited revealed its two-seater electric car EZIO and cargo vehicle EZIBOT at the event on January 28.

EZIO features a reverse trike design and is aimed at urban fleet operators and shared mobility services. The vehicle claims a range of 200 kilometers on a single charge with a charging time of 2-3 hours using AC charging. The company states the operating cost is approximately ₹0.50-0.60 per kilometer.

According to Anmol Singh Jaggi, Managing Director of Gensol Engineering Ltd., the vehicle has undergone 100,000 kilometers of testing and features a high-tensile steel space frame chassis. The company plans to manufacture these vehicles at its facility in Chakan, Pune, with initial launches planned in Bangalore and Delhi.

Pratik Gupta, CEO of Gensol EV, indicated that the pre-orders came from existing fleet operators, suggesting market interest in their electric mobility solutions. The vehicles are positioned to address urban transportation challenges including traffic congestion and pollution.

Gensol Engineering Limited, the parent company, has been operating in the renewable energy sector since 2012. The company expanded into electric mobility through its subsidiary, marking its entry into India's growing electric vehicle market. India has set a target of 30% electric vehicle adoption for private cars by 2030 under its electric vehicle policy.

Quoting the paragraphs from SEBI's interim order:

"80. It was noted that the Company had made a disclosure dated January 28, 2025,to the exchanges that it had received pre orders for 30,000 of its newly launched electric vehicles unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. However, when relevant documents were called for from the Company and examined it was noted that the Orders in question were Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) entered with 9 entities for 29,000 cars. The MOUs were in the nature of an expression of willingness with no reference to the price of the vehicle or delivery schedules. Therefore, it prima facie appeared that the Company was making misleading disclosures to investors.

81. In this regard, representative of NSE visited the plant site of Gensol Electric Vehicle Private Limited located at Gat No. 877, Next to Mahindra Towers, Khed, Nighoje, Chakan, Pune – 410501 on April 09, 2025.

82. It was found during the visit that there was no manufacturing activity at the plant with only 23 labourers present there. The NSE official called for details of electricity bills of the unit and it was observed that the maximum amount billed by Mahavitaranduring last 12 months was Rs. 1,57,037.01 for the month of December 2024. Hence, it can be inferred that there has been no manufacturing activity at the plant site which is on a leased property."

If you read the whole order, it just throws so many surprises that how a (relatively famous) publicly listed company and a ride sharing app with so many big external investors was siphoning of money!
