Rumour: Mahindra to launch XUV300 EV by June 2024

According to a media report, Mahindra’s upcoming XUV300 facelift will get a pure-electric option. The new XUV300 EV will be positioned below the XUV400 and will compete with the Tata Nexon.ev.

The report states that while the XUV300 EV will be based on the facelift version, it will get a few EV-specific design elements. Spy images suggest that the car will sport a design inspired by Mahindra’s Born Electric range. This includes large C-shaped LED daytime running lights and a refreshed rear end featuring C-shaped taillights with a full-width LED light bar.

The XUV300 EV is expected to get a few updates on the interior as well. The electric SUV could get a bigger touchscreen infotainment system and a new instrument console; among other changes.

Reports suggest that the XUV300 EV will use a 35 kWh battery pack, which is slightly smaller than the one offered in the XUV400. Hence, the overall maximum range is also expected to lower. That being said, it could get the same front-mounted electric motor.

The XUV300 EV will reportedly cost Rs 2 lakh less than the XUV400. Assuming these reports are true, whether this move will help boost sales remains to be seen.

This is confusing, the main advantage of going with XUV400 was that you were essentially getting a bigger car at around the same price as a Nexon EV Max. I'm assuming they'll be using the same 34.5kWh NMC battery pack which is being sourced from Farasis.

They are already offering ₹2 lakh discount on XUV 400! There's no way this one will sell if it's priced ₹2 lakh less!!! I think Mahindra should focus on born.EV platform vehicles and move on from this debacle. There's no way they can touch Nexon EV with this one. It's a lost game.

What’s the use?

It’s not like ev’s have the 4m length tax, and the pro of having bigger boot goes for a toss.

Unless they have some some plan to make it <15L to compete with upcoming punch EV, it seems like a stupid move to me

Maybe they’re eying more economy of scale by unifying at least half ev’s on the same body shell as the ICE — on that note, has the EC trim even started delivery yet?

I thought XUV400 is just EV version of XUV300 and both are same, atleast from the outside it looks like that. So they will creating a new car with different chassis and body structure now?

But why? Who asked for it? They already have the 4OO which can at least claim to be superior to Nexon.EV in size if not anything else. What will the boot chopped version achieve apart from just negating the one advantage it had over the Nexon.

Its not as if Mahindra will save on any GST since all EVs regardless of size are 5% GST. Might as well keep the 15% GST advantage w.r.t. ICE Creta sized vehicles (43-45% GST and above) rather than compete with ICE Nexon sized vehicles (28-30% GST).
