Re: Hyundai Kona | A wonderful car with an Achilles heel

I noticed electronics and AC failures are common even in ICE Hyundai cars. I have been using a i10 sport for a while now. Several issues I faced like power windows work only from drivers seat, the other switches don't work, Audio system stops working, headlights go kaput often, AC requires frequent fixing. Maybe Hyundai needs to improve in this area?

Sound will always be there, after all only one compressor. If it is damaged it will be audible even if cabin AC is running or if battery cooling is required.

To avoid generalizing, i would say that, Kona had a specific design flaw. But the same may not be the case for their other cars.
I have seen satisfied & unsatisfied owners but still Hyundai has a better track record than some of the other manufacturers.
Yes, there is always a scope for improvement but that depends on how much they are willing to invest in it. A few decades back Toyota was "the might" in terms of quality and reliability but look at where they are now(atleast in Indian context)!

Re: Hyundai Kona | A wonderful car with an Achilles heel

Managed to reach back to bangalore, did one dc charging, the car was whining throughout the charging, got a ev unit error at the end of it when I started driving the car, switched off the car and switched it on again abd it was gone. Had to do one more round of chargig, managed to do 7 kw ac.l, no issues there. Will be giving the car on Monday for service. They have already informed me that it could take a week for the part.

@evfan How do I confirm that they have done a check for the expansion valve and the ac control module. Is it something that I can ask them to show on the diagnostics?

Looks like the BMS passive safety, so you had to wait till the battery cooled down before you could resume.

The 50 DC charger test can confirm if the entire system is working properly or not. I think Hyundai has no diagnostics run / standalone testing for these parts yet.
The service personnel can take a log while charging & verify if these units are performing. Even for them, It's worth the effort compared to losing another compressor.
