A prototype of the Mahindra XUV.e8 electric SUV was recently spotted on the Chennai-Bangalore highway. The latest spy images reveal some new details of the upcoming EV.



While the overall shape of the XUV.e8 looks similar to the XUV700, it has a distinct front end featuring a continuous LED light bar and vertically stacked headlamp pods. The rear end, however, looks identical to the ICE version.



On the inside, the XUV.e8 has three large screens and two-spoke steering wheels similar to the new Tata Safari. The centre console has a conventional automatic gear selector and a circular dial for the drive modes.



The XUV.e8 electric SUV is likely to be based on Mahindra's INGLO platform. It is expected to use an 80 kWh battery pack, powering a single or dual-motor setup. It could pack around 227-345 BHP.

Lap seat belts? Come on Mahindra you can do better! Hope it's only for the pre production version and hope that the final version does not cut corners on safety. Especially with airbag-gate apprehensions and Safari stepping up its game.

I saw this vehicle while I was driving from Chennai - Bangalore yesterday. Along with this I also saw a coupe version or it appeared to be one right behind this vehicle. They both were parked and I was moving hence couldnt capture it.

So another jugaad EV from MM before they release their born electric SUVs. I would stay away from this too just like you need to stay away from XUV400.
This wont even be cheap. Not sure what MM's plan is but expecting people to cough up 30+ L on such a product is too much.

I believe INGLO platform Is pure EV platform with VW MEB components. Then this EV should have differences to ICE XUV7OO monocoque.

Would it be just similar in looks and dimensions?

Isn't this based on the new EV platform developed with Volkswagen? Just that the body is XUV700.

80 kWh battery pack? Wow, that's gonna have fantastic range - honestly genuinely usable as an alternative to an ICE car.

Mahindra XUV.e8 (XUV700 EV) takes shape.

A lot of exterior panels will be shared with the XUV700, but it will be completely unique under the skin.

it is still far from a finished product, this is our first, uncamouflaged sighting of the body panels of the XUV.e8. And from the looks of it, the bonnet and the doors look quite similar to the XUV700 – it even has the kink near the C-pillar and a roofline that has a similar flow. This also matches the design patent Mahindra had filed earlier.

But what’ll be unique to this EV is an all-new fascia with a full-width LED light bar headlining the nose, and also dropping down vertically into the bumper. As is typical with EVs, we can see a completely sealed-off grille. The housings for the triangular headlamps are positioned in the bumper. The rear is not visible here, but the XUV.e8 concept carried over the design of the regular XUV700; the same can be expected of the production-spec model.

The XUV.e8 will be the first upcoming Mahindra EV to make it to production, and it will hit the market by December 2024. The SUV-coupe version – the XUV.e9 – will follow soon after.

Mahindra XUV.e8 exterior & interior design patented

Mahindra has filed several design patents that reveal the exterior and interior details of the upcoming XUV.e8 electric SUV. We have seen most of these parts on test mules already.



Starting with the exterior, the overall shape of the XUV.e8 looks similar to the XUV700. It has a distinct front end featuring a continuous LED light bar and vertically stacked headlamp pods.



Mahindra has filed a patent for the new headlamp cluster design. It is a triangular unit housing three LED lights, stacked vertically, with an LED projector headlight on top.



The patent also reveals the new dashboard with its triple-screen setup. It has a gloss black trim around the edges. The XUV.e8 will also get a unique steering wheel. It is an octagonal 2-spoke design. It also has a red centre mark.



The XUV.e8 is a pure-electric version of the XUV700. It is expected to use an 80 kWh battery pack, powering a single or dual-motor setup. It could pack around 227-345 BHP.
