Maruti's eVX spied again.

- Maruti Suzuki eVX will be a larger vehicle than the current available cars as it is based on YY8 skateboard, which is derived from Toyota’s 27PL platform.

- There is conventional headlight positioning, unlike the recent trend of split headlight setups. Headlight units seem to get triple ice-cube effect LED DRLs along with a mono LED projector setup. Front fascia has a radar module too, for ADAS suite.

-ORVMs get a camera each, suggesting a 360-camera setup. Alloy wheels are nothing fancy when compared to what was showcased in the concept car. Other interesting attributes include charging port on front left quarter panel.

-Maruti is giving all-four disc brakes for enhanced stopping power, which is needed for heavier electric vehicles

- C-pillar mounted rear door handles

I think Tata Motors domination of EV market comes to an end from 2025. Mahindra/Hyundai will grab the XUV and the higher segments and Maruti/Hyundai the segments below. And if BYD is allowed to do business unhindered, they are going to be a big player too.

If this comes with a BYD battery, I hope Maruti gets at least a battery with 2C charge rate. But knowing Indian makers they may choose to give crappy charge speed.

Both CATL and BYD standard LFP product for this year for OEMs is 2.2C and 2C charge capable battery respectively.

Maruti Suzuki’s much awaited entry into EV space delayed by several months.

SOP likely to move from October 2024 to February 2025 at the earliest, delay pushes plans of exporting vehicles to Europe and Japan from 2024 to next year.

the company is trying to address multiple challenges of battery supplies and software issues that have delayed the start of production (SOP) by at least five months.

The Indian launch date will also depend on the new production plan, being studied by the company. This development has come at a time when the overall electric vehicle market globally is witnessing a slowdown in growth including in India. The ramifications of the delay are also likely to be felt by Suzuki, which is banking on the YY8 to make its debut in Europe’s competitive EV market. Maruti Suzuki is a key export base for the YY8 and almost 75-80% of the output of 1.5 lakh units planned by the company is allocated for the overseas markets.

the company wants to enter the EV space with the right preparedness on both the products as well as distribution front and has hence taken this drastic step of delaying SOP by a few months to ensure that the product launch is glitch free.

Is Maruti doing what they call stringing customers along? When you have nothing to offer to customer, you just string them along. Telling them their EV is just around the bend; ready to roll into view anytime soon. And, then keep pushing the date. This way what they do is, keep customers from buying rivals' EVs.

New spy shots of Suzuki's eVX as it is slated for an EU debut:

A sighting that takes place again in southern Europe and in the middle of summer.

The new eVX has been caught sporting its production headlights. Optical groups that use LED technology. It is an important change that ratifies the fact that the development process is moving in the right direction. It will look sleek and modern. In a previous article we advanced the design of the Suzuki eVX through a recreation. A recreation based on both the spy photos published to date and the concept model presented by the brand itself.

It will be equipped with a 60 kWh lithium-ion battery. Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions will be available. It remains to be seen what level of power each of the engines will reach. The range of the eVX will exceed 400 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle.

The latest information indicates that the production version of the eVX will be presented in the last stages of this year. To see it in dealerships, will have to wait until the end of the first half of 2025.
