Re: Citroen eC3 Review

2024 Citroen e-C3 debuts in Europe with 32o km (WLTP), and fast charging from 20% to 80% in 26 min. Prices start from €23,300.

Quote:
Its new "zero-emission" version, called ë-C3, will be marketed at €23,300 from the second quarter of 2024, before deduction of the bonus. In a second phase, in 2025, a variant for less than €20,000 has already been announced. For the time being, however, only the high Max trim has come close. It will remain accessible for less than €30,000, which remains unrivalled for a 4-metre-long electric city car.
Quote:
This novelty uses an Emotors engine manufactured in the east of France, in Trémery. While its lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery is produced in China by Svolt. This chemistry is cheaper than the nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) used on other Stellantis models, starting with the Peugeot e-208 and Opel Corsa Electric.
Quote:
The 83 kW/113 hp electric motor provides power and torque for daily commutes and long journeys, while the 44 kWh LFP battery pack provides a WLTP driving range of up to 320 km (199 miles).
VALUE PRICE: The ë-C3 with a range of 320 km will be offered at a net price starting at €23,300, as Citroën aggressively steps up its mission to make all-electric mobility accessible to all. Citroën promises an even more affordable range of 200km, the ë-C3, which will arrive in 2025, starting at €19,990

Standard AC charging, from 20% to 80%, takes about 4h10 with a power of 7kW, or 2h50 if 11kW is available. Accessing both domestic and public AC charging facilities is easy using the Mode 3 cable supplied as standard, which is ideal for regular recharging at home using a wall box, as well as at public charging stations. The cable can be charged with a 7.4 kW single-phase or 11 kW three-phase wall box.

Re: Citroen eC3 Review

The car looks classier & is in no way comparable to Indian version :(
Also it is cheap as per European prices.

They have been able to fit 44 Kwh LFP battery in the 4 meter car while the Tata is only able to fit 39Kwh in Nexon and that too with a raised floor height. Also its faster charging is much faster then Nexon's with 20% to 80% in just 26 minutes.

Don't know if it will sell or not in good numbers in Europe but it looks like a good piece of structural engineering due to not so raised floor height as per online videos & can be a good city car especially the lower range version.

Why did Citroen have to cheapen out for India? This eC3 looks so smart! It has the right size and the right specs to compete with something like the Nexon EV, which sells for a solid 20lakhs. They really should not have turned it into a Tiago competitor.

Re: Europe: 2024 Citroen eC3 EV with 320 km range unveiled

The EU version is a different platform then Indian/Brazilian version and that may explain the battery capacity difference. The EU and Indian version both get batteries from same supplier but the EU version is liquid cooled, its important for countries where temperature goes below freezing conditions to heat up the battery by using the heat from the motor, heat pump or a resistive heating element.

Also the Brazilian made version scored zero star in Latin NCAP crash test.

The EU version on the other hand which is made in Slovakia scored 4 star for 2017 version.

Unbelievable that they gave us such a pathetic one, while they have a better one in all aspects. Indians won't tolerate a poorly equipped car, can't Citroen management see why Kia and Hyundai are at the top of the chart? The whole team responsible for India strategy should be fired without fail.

Re: Europe: 2024 Citroen eC3 EV with 320 km range unveiled

I'm just surprised that Citroen eC3 has a waiting time of 3 months (according to a dealer on OMR Chennai) while shipping 166 units last month (according to figures here (September 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Anaysis)). Why aren't they at least ramping up to meet demand?

I would have been fine with the Indian eC3 at that price, and in terms of size it's more in Punch than Nexon category. Went in for a Nexon EV because it was available off the shelf, and with Chennai monsoon approaching I thought it is better to get a new car now. Also Nexon looks like a better car in most ways, but the price gap and certain positive reviews about the Citroen (ride quality, boot space, etc) would have been tempting. Air cooled battery doesn't seem to be an issue in India: one guy reported unreliable fast charging, but he later said they fixed it with a software update.

True, there may be a market for the bells-and-whistles EU version of eC3. But there is apparently a demand for the Indian one too, it's the supply that's lacking.

Re: Europe: 2024 Citroen eC3 EV with 320 km range unveiled

I had a rant about this on the Autocar post when I saw it but really, why does Citroen still think Indians want the poverty spec version?! This eC3 looks Way sharper than the one we get - sure, this version is obviously going to be more expensive but like Shreyans_Jain correctly points out, I think they could've priced this at the 20L ballpark and customers wouldn't have batted an eyelid given the more premium nature. It also would've slotted in far more nicely with a top down strategy given they launched the pricey C5 Aircross in India first. They could've launched our current C3 EV then at a later date with a new moniker for price conscious consumers and possibly fleet operators too.

Love the new Citroen logo - really harks back to the retro one. £23k is pretty competitive as small EVs go in the EU market. Imagine it'll be up against the Renault Zoe in particular.

Re: Europe: 2024 Citroen eC3 EV with 320 km range unveiled

The European spec version looks nice. It probably would have made a much larger impact on the mindset of the people here than the one they currently have on sale in India. I wish they bring it here ASAP - it would be a head-turner and will bring in the numbers they lack in India. But assuming that it would cost ~20k EUR over there, would it cost between INR 20-25 lakhs over here?

Re: Europe: 2024 Citroen eC3 EV with 320 km range unveiled

My humble suggestion is people should stop buying cars with double standards (from EU/US/Japanese OEMs) in safety, platform, technology etc. This is the most effective signal the Indian auto market can give to OEMs which play this game in developing nations.

Will it happen in reality?
Probably not. We are all happy with what these OEMs offer us.

Re: Europe: 2024 Citroen eC3 EV with 320 km range unveiled

Euro spec EC3 seems to be a re-skinned version of our EC3. Same body shell with cosmetic enhancement without going overboard to keep costs in check on the outside with raft of changes happening underneath its floor. I wish Citroen India atleast gives our version proper front and back adjustable head restraints and re locate the rear power window switches. The bigger battery pack /motor set up of the Euro spec EC3 could find it's way into the upcoming EC3 Aircross IMO.
