BMW could introduce an electric M car with an RWD dual-motor setup

BMW has been working on a quad-motor electric performance car for a while now. The all-electric M prototype car has been spied on testing on multiple occasions, with BMW even releasing official images of the same.

According to the latest media reports, BMW could also be looking at introducing an electric M car with a dual-motor rear-wheel-drive setup. Frank van Meel, CEO of BMW M, stated that the carmaker is considering the RWD dual-motor version, which could be lighter and more fun to drive than the heavier yet faster quad-motor xDrive-equipped M car.

BMW already has a range of M performance-badged cars in its lineup, including the i4 M50, i5 M60, iX M60 and the i7 M70. However, a full-fledged M electric car is still said to be a couple of years away.

The fully-fledged electric M cars will be based on the brand's Neue Klasse platform, which will make its debut in 2025. While the first models based on the Neue Klasse platform will be a sedan and SUV in the 3 Series segment, the first real M car without an IC engine is slated to launch sometime in 2027.
