0-100 km/h in 0.956 seconds: Electric car developed by Swiss students creates a new record

A group of students in Switzerland have built a small and lightweight EV, which posted a 0-100 km/h time of under 1 second.

The purpose-built EV accelerated from 0-100 km/h in 0.956 seconds, claiming a new Guinness World Record in the process. The previous record was 1.461 seconds, set by another team of students in Germany last September.

The record-setting EV is called 'Mythen' and was driven by Kate Maggetti on a test track in Duebendort, Switzerland. Reports also state that the EV was able to complete the 0-100 km/h sprint in just 40 feet, which suggests Maggetti experienced an average of 2.96Gs over the course of the run.

Talking about the EV itself, the car is built using a carbon-fibre and aluminium honeycomb structure, allowing it to tip the scale at just 309 pounds (140 kg). The EV uses four hub-mounted electric motors producing a combined power output of 322 BHP. Traction is via a rear wing and what the team describes as "a vacuum cleaner that holds the car to the ground by suction".

The Swiss student team stated, "Now the world record is back in Swiss hands, and the ETH Zurich students are confident they will not relinquish it again anytime soon."

Re: 0-100 km/h in 0.956 seconds: Electric car developed by Swiss students creates a new record

For context, the car was developed for Formula Student, which is a competition held across a lot of countries, even India. However, this specific car will most likely be participating in the European ones. The previous record was also set by a Formula Student team.
As a member of a Formula Student team in India, these kinds of records are really motivating and exciting as they showcase true engineering excellence and honestly we'd be stoked to achieve even a fraction of their cars capabilities.
