Now that we as a country are slowly migrating into EV space, one of the major hindrances in having many people move into the EV space is range anxiety due to not so many charging networks. Something that struck me which I feel is a great business opportunity that is not tapped by many manufacturers yet which is nothing but Power banks for EV cars. It will turn out to be a game changer, even if the range is limited to 100 km, they can be of great remedy for people who are sitting on the fence. I read an article on Hyundai is working on something along those lines, hope in the future many manufacturers will start to think of ways and means to increase EV adoption in India.

A mini Honda DG set in the boot of a Tata/Hyundai/Any EV would be a better option, rather than a portable charger

Any power bank or generator means additional weight which means your efficiency reduces.
Power Bank needs to charge using DC and not AC otherwise it will take ages, and you are better off looking for a 16A socket, which you can find in abundance than chugging this weight.

For the generator comment, you are still charging at 3.3kw or lower, not worth taking that monstrosity around.

Not a new concept, there are already players working on solving this problem.

In India MojoGreen is offering portable charging solutions.

I have been looking at 20KW-40KW portable EV Power Banks through China (who seem to be the only ones actually making them and within a sane price range).
The pricing is coming down to roughly 1.6-2L for a 20KW powerbank and around 3L (yet to reconfirm it to be sure) for 40KW powerbank.
And all of them are DC output so more or less juice up your EV in an hour.

Its portable enough like a medium sized suitcase to sit in your car's trunk and weighs 60KG, which is more or less like another passenger, not bad.
I am really tempted to get one as a emergency power source for long road trips and its turning out to be way cheaper than paying the car company for a larger battery train.

Recently got Windsor EV which has 38KW battery pack, so doing another 2L for a portable 20KW (or hell even 40KW) powerbank seems decent enough.

My main concern is the custom duty which will be levied when importing it, and if there are gonna be any hiccups while importing it.
Right now the safest option I am considering is to bring it with myself, in flight/cargo if I get a chance to visit China/HK in near future.

Wonder what are the thoughts of other EV owners about this ? And I am really surprised no Indian company is already importing and reselling EV powerbanks yet domestically, seems like a market gap.

I played around a lot with multiple road trip plans on Plugshare from Delhi as starting point and so far the only challenging routes I have seen are Jaisalmer and Pokhara/Kathmandu (Nepal), both of which are more or less on edge of Windsor's max range so if the last stretch's charger fails, you end up in middle of road.
But if you had say a 10KW backup power source like that powerbank, that 10KW alone adds 60-70KM range to let you reach your destination safe and sound.
Add a 30-40KW powerbank and boom, literally nowhere you can't take your EV car.

Sorry to burst your bubble but this is not a power bank. It's a DC charger and it needs 3 phase AC input. Everything upstream from the AC plug point where you will connect this charger needs to support the high current.

This is not a power bank. A 20 KW power bank looks something like on this link. Similar setup is used by companies like Hopcharge to charge cars on the go.

Wouldn't a setup like this be much better setup - a removable battery, rather than a portable charger. You can just replace the battery on the go at a charging station (just like filling petrol) and keep going.

Next to having a removable battery, one can provide a power bank you take and drop off while returning or even a different location. Needs to have multiple locations across highways and tourist places where you dont have power grid ?

But not sure what is the point. If one can setup charging locations everywhere you don't need to resort to any of these things. Until then a DG set for extreme situations
