The car looks great, in-fact better than ICE counter part.
I happened to SS Model wise features. Is empowered top variant?

Re: Tata Nexon EV facelift leaked ahead of debut

Well kudos to Tata for hitting it out of the park again with Nexon.ev. Personally happy to see some differentiation between EV and ICE models. Also they have made the cabin in line with Industry standards: Uncluttered, minimalist, Tech-heavy. 12.3" infotainment was a surprise though but glad to see EV specific infotainment and instrument cluster features as these were missing in precious iterations.

Another surprise was V2L and V2V capabilities. Not seen in this segment. I personally thought these.were reserved for the Harrier and Safari EVs. These and new additions in interior enhance value proposition of Nexon.ev over the XUV400.

WHY did they reduce the Torque of the motor? 245Nm and 250Nm were good values for the vehicles considering their weight. They even offered decent range. Hope they increase it soon. Will wait for the review to see if they pulled a Tiago.ev here (personally felt 114Nm was less but reviews say otherwise).

Let's see pricing to see if VFM quotient has shot up for Nexon.ev and ICE Nexon when prices are announced on 14th September.

.
They increased max rpm to 16000 rpm up from 12000 rpm and also flat torque band of the motor is further increased by 750rpm. So this means they can gear the vehicle slightly lower and still get higher torque at the wheel which is 2500Nm. So this results in faster acceleration and slightly higher top speed.

Re: Tata Nexon EV facelift leaked ahead of debut

  • Top spec EV version gets 12.25 inch infotainment touchscreen (up from 10.25 inch of top spec ICE version).
  • The variant terminology on the other is really confusing. For example, Fearless S+ is the top spec variant for ICE models and Empowered+ is the top spec variant for EV models(with a few more EV exclusive features) which makes some sense, but the confusing part is ICE Fearless S+ gets a lot more features than EV Fearless S+. If you think KIA's variant distribution is confusing, Tata stepped it up to a whole new level.
EDIT - The digital rotatory gear selector is now gone.

Re: Tata Nexon EV facelift leaked ahead of debut

Does this mean that Max variant of the current nexon ev is re badged to LR variant?
Or we can speculate that Tata is going to come up with 50+ kWH battery pack in the future which might be shared with both Harrier and future Nexon ev max variant if any

Anyone with inside information can please share the details

Thank you

Re: Tata Nexon EV facelift leaked ahead of debut

Watched the entire presentation.

They have, indeed, upped the game

The differentiation in looks and equipment with the ICE sibling is wider and will now surely help attract a larger crowd.

And that white interior looks awesome

Re: Tata Nexon EV facelift leaked ahead of debut

It has been more than 3.5 years since the Nexon EV launched and there has been no upgrade in terms of the most important metric for an EV, i.e. battery capacity. The base model is still available with the same 30kWh battery as it was in early 2020. Tata (other companies as well) continues to milk the low GST (5%), road tax waivers, etc… without being aggressive despite being part of huge conglomerate. Nexon EV sales have been declining for many months and they are selling in much lower now compared to an year ago even after the launch of Max variant.

Tata’s EV lead is already eroding at a faster pace even with just a small increase in competition. Their sales are growing at much slower pace despite multiple new models (Nexon EV max, Tiago EV). Compare to petrol variants the EV starts at 80% higher price even with huge GST advantage for EVs. The new models should have come with 40 and 50 kWh batteries. I don’t think the new model with bigger touchscreens will increase the sales of Nexon EV by much.

Thanks for clarification. Is this what they did in Tiago.ev? Higher motor speed meaning reduced torque output.

How does it work? Explanation will be beneficial not just for me but other BHP-ians as well.

Yes, reliability is indeed a key to success. But I've seen in other threads elsewhere across the forum of tata EV cars not getting prompt diagnosis and correction from service centers. After sales service should directly tie up with the factory/design engineering team to iron out all niggles cropping up in the ev models without any time delay. Only the core engineering team designing and executing the model might have insight on what's happening with the vehicle, so Tata motors should ensure that the engineering team is quickly updated of the issues cropping up in a ev if it's not resolved in a few hours. Also customer should have the channel to escalate the issues directly to the engineering team if service centers can't figure it out in 24 hours. Only working in tandem can bring reliability in long run. Tata motors are you even listening.

The 40 kWh battery pack looks good, but had the range be above 550 kms, it would have overcome a psychological barrier . Ofcourse tata motors has the data and the Statics to understand that a range of around 310 will be enough to keep on going with multiple breaks. But having a 500 kms in hand and randomly topping it up should put away the range anxiety for ever. Apple is a very valuable phone brand because they hired psychologist to study human behaviour and mindset. They designed products that appealed to the mind of the people. Well Tata motors also can take an inspiration.

I think at the launch of Tiago they'd claimed the first generation EV launches were over.
I think punch ev will be the last of the first generation EVs.

Hopefully tata redesigns nano and brings in a small city car and names it something like tata town.

Tata is uping the game to the competition. Hope they might capture international markets with right quality control and dedication. Paddle regen sounds exciting.

Vehicle to vehicle charging or vehicle to home charging is a feature which takes the utility of the vehicle to a whole new level. It's a very desirable feature.

The next generation motor which is also 20kg lighter is another significant step.

The company rightly named themselves Tata "motors " - a name for the it's future. All the very best tata, hope you bring your after sales service to the top notch standards, then it won't ever be servicing a car, it will be serving the nation itself.

Re: Tata Nexon EV facelift leaked ahead of debut

Finally, they took a look at their aero and realized we can get some range upgrade over there, the aero upgrades don't actually work well at low speeds (ARAI speeds) but should do wonders at speeds of 80+.
Probably the wheel inserts, bumper changes and the tyre can be retro-fitted.

Re: Tata Nexon EV facelift leaked ahead of debut

What a launch!!! What a presentation!! Their advert for the car ended with the tag line "It changes the game". And they surely did change the game.

The game changers as shown the presentation

Better efficiency

1. Next gen motor with 20 kg weight reduction and 30% reduction in uses of rare metals. The motor has a smaller form factor
2. iVBAC - intelligent Vacuum-less Boost and Active Control device (The only car in India to use it) and bigger AC compressor to improve vehicle range
3. Better aerodynamics - Redesigned front bumper, rear spoiler, moving of rear wiper under the spoiler
4. Using LEDs all around in the car reducing electrical load by 30%
5. Lower rolling resistance tyres - lowest in the country today

All in all results in 3% of ARAI test range improvement but more significantly improves 7-7.5% of practical driving range. So say you were driving your EV Max for 280 kms in one charge. You will get 300 kms now.

Better performance

1. Next gen motor can deliver 16000 RPM and 2500 NM torque at wheels leading to better flat torque curve. Also, results in faster 0-100 of 8.9 secs and top speed of 150 kmph (10 kmph over EV Max)
2. Enhanced regen with paddle shifters with 10-15% higher regen capacity
3. V2L and V2V added to the car. This is the biggest game changer of all. This is something which is till date available only in premium cars in India.

Better Safety
1. 6 airbags as standard which is the same as the ICE variant with seat belt reminder for all passengers.
2. Car gets augmented side pole safety in addition to the front crash safety.

EDIT: Added these points

New tech
1. V2L and V2V added to the car. This is the biggest game changer of all. This is something which is till date available only in premium cars in India.
a. V2L works with the load up to 3.3 kVA. That means almost 12 hrs of backup at full load
b. V2V works at a load of 5kva so another EV can be charged at 5 KW load which is brilliant. If you are stuck somebody else can help you.
2. 12.3 inch screen with capability of playing Netflix, Prime video, Hotstar.
3. All popular voice assistants integrated into the car.

Higher Localization
1. More local components being manufactured.
2. Same Line for ICE and EV vehicles resulting in same turnaround times for both the vehicle types.

So every vehicle needs a reduction gear to increase the torque. IC powered cars have a 1st gear ratio of more then 3:1 which means for every rotation of the gearbox output shaft, the engine crankshaft has to spin 3 times. If you try to move the IC powered car from stand still in a 1:1 gear ratio like 4th gear, the engine will stall and it will not have the torque to move the car. Hence you have gears to multiply the torque, yes you do have a frictional loss in that process.

So in electric motor if they have the same power draw but one has a higher rpm it would have lower torque and vice versa.

There is no right way, there is always a trade off. A higher rpm motor is prefered because it uses less current(Amp), then a lower rpm motor with higher torque. So less current means less resistance in the coil, so less heat is produced in the stator and better efficiency. Also smaller diameter input cables to the motor, resulting in cost savings.

But with a higher rpm motor, the mechanical properties like tolerances, rotor balance, bearing life will have to be made superior or uprated.

Re: Tata Nexon EV facelift leaked ahead of debut

20kg less motor weight.
30% less rare earth metals usage.
But as an end user am I not getting 20% less torque?

Also Nexon max doesn't makes sense to me with raised floor height especially when 4m tax rule doesn't applies to ev vehicles. It's difficult to sit on back seats if you are a tall person.
Don't know why Tata is not prioritising Curvv ev instead of spending resources on LR variant.
