The new BMW i7 Protection comes with Class VR9 protection, which means the electric sedan is bulletproof and protects against explosives. The i7 Protection is capable of offering protection from caliber 7.62x54 R ammunition, offers armouring on the underbody, roof and has armoured glass and is also efficient against drone attacks and hand grenades.

Underneath all the protective armour, the BMW i7 Protection shares several components with the EV's range-topping i7 M70 variant. The bulletproof electric sedan is powered by dual electric motors producing 544 BHP and 744 Nm. The BMW i7 Protection is capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in 9 seconds and has a top speed limited to 160 km/h.

Re: BMW unveils its first armoured electric luxury sedan via the i7 Protection

One thing that has always surprised me when reading the spec sheet of armored cars is their weight. For example, the Mercedes S-Guard weighs an additional 2 tonnes over the regular S-class.

Wonder how much this car would weigh! EVs are already heavier than ICE engined cars, plus the usual armoring, plus extra armoring for the battery (which is weak spot from a security POV). Wont be surprised if it tops 6 tonnes!

760i - 2,270 kg
I7 - 2,640 kg

The difference is 370kg, if the protection systems are 2 tonnes, i7 should weigh 4.64 tonnes vs 4.27 tonnes of 760i.

One protection from an Electric Car I would hope for is a 800V shock when someone unwanted touches the car

May be secretively they have done it already and not publicly advertising, no?!

Interesting concept of having an electric vehicle for armoury.

I believe seeing that grill is enough to scare everyone away and thats the best protection anyone can have. Fix two horns and it will look like a raging bull from afar.
