Rumour: Mahindra Thar EV concept to debut on August 15

According to a media report, Mahindra is likely to unveil an electric version of the Thar later this month. The 'Thar EV concept' will reportedly be showcased alongside the 'Global Pik Up Vision concept' on August 15.



The report also states that the Thar EV concept will preview the off-roader's future design. However, there are no specific details regarding the platform that will underpin the Thar EV.

It has been reported that the Thar EV will have 4-wheel drive capabilities, but instead of a dual-motor setup, Mahindra might adopt a quad-motor concept. This would also give the Thar EV crab steer capability.

The Mahindra Thar EV is still in an early concept stage, and there's no word yet on if or when a production version will arrive. For now, the concept will only provide us with a glimpse of what we can expect from the brand in the future.

Still looks pretty ‘Jeepy’ to me.
I’d have thought they may have considered changing the grille to a different design at least.
But yes the Thar EV will be good for the future readiness aspect.

That is just an imagination by the renderer drawn long ago, we have to wait for the actual unveil.

By current affordable EV standards, the Thar EV will have poor range due to its fat kerb weight. But it will only improve with time, as battery tech progresses.

A Thar EV with 300 km range will be poor. Drive hard and it'll fall like crazy; offroading is out of the question as the range will drop drastically. But the day Mahindra launches a 500 km Thar EV is the day many will gravitate to it. I personally would be very tempted to buy it over a diesel / petrol Thar as my running is 80% city, 20% highway and majorly on nights / weekends.

Oh yes. This is departure from Jeep derived design language.
Good for two reasons -
- Mahindra can sell this one in whatever market they want. Getting rid of the Stellantis lawsuits is welcome.
- My old generation Thar now becomes even more desirable with Jeep derived design language

Mahindra screwed it up big time.

Ours is GMT+5:30, and South Africa's is GMT+2:00. Be it 15th August 12:00 pm Indian time or 12:00 pm African time, either ways it should be today only.

They unveiled Thar EV. Looks like, this in no way is related to Thar, they must have used name to capitalize on the popularity of Thar.

Mahindra future EVs specifications, features, launch timeline revealed. All in concept form, far away from the production form.

The new electric SUV range will include the XUV.e8, XUV.e9, BE.05, BE.07, and also the Thar.e, Scorpio.e and Bolero.e.

Thar, Scorpio and Bolero to get electric variants
XUV e8 to use 231hp, rear-mounted Valeo e-motor
79kWh battery to charge from 0-80 percent in 30 mins

The Thar.e was of course shown in concept form, but the .e moniker will also be extended to the Scorpio e and Bolero e. What’s most interesting is that all three will be built on the INGLO skateboard platform and not the ladder-frame chassis that they currently use. However, no launch timeline was given for these three models.

Mahindra is on roll, seems like another blockbuster is in the making. Thar.e concept's steering immediately reminded me of Tata's recent steering wheel designs.
