Ford drops F-150 Lightning prices by a massive $10,000 as production set to increase

Ford has recently announced massive price cuts on its all-electric pickup truck, the F-150 Lightning, ranging between $6,000 - $10,000.

As per reports, Ford suggested that its price cuts are because the company's efforts to boost production and lower battery mineral costs have paid off. Ford will reduce prices of all variants of the F-150 Lightning, with the lower trims receiving up to $10,000 reductions, while the top-spec 'Platinum' variant will cost $6,000 less than its prices in March 2023.

The Ford F 150 Lightning was introduced in 2021 with prices ranging from $40,000 and going all the way up to $92,000. However, over the past couple of years, prices of the electric pickup rose steadily, hitting the $60,000 mark in March this year for the base trim. With the price cuts in place, entry-level pricing will reduce to $50,000.

Ford has been working on boosting production of the F-150 Lightning ever since its launch. The American carmaker recently stated that the facility that manufactures the F-150 Lightning will be closed for several weeks while Ford installs production upgrades to boost the numbers.

More manufacturers likely to follow, what with electric vehicle inventories in the US rising to 1.6 million this month. Moving all that inventory is expected to remain a problem for dealers given the country's economic outlook over the year or so.

Tesla world wide sales this year expected to be 1.8million, I do not believe just the EV inventories of all other manufacturers in US to reach 1.6million, do you have a source.

Currently Ford is not making any money on its EVs. In fact it’s 2022 results show a loss of $60,000/- per every EV it made. This will be the case with all the major car makers right now. Where Tesla scores is that it’s created a profitable model for its EVs, something that may take as long as decade for others to replicate. It’s a long road ahead for most of these car makers, and it may even leave many of them irreversible broken.

Even if they have managed to drop the manufacturing cost, it's still strange to see a manufacture willingly drop the price by up to $10k.

Normally, I'd expect them to keep quiet about lowered input costs, and pocket the extra profit.

This indicates to me that their sales are not reaching their expected targets.
