Volkswagen's MEB electric car platform achieves 1 million production milestone

Volkswagen has achieved a new milestone with its MEB electric platform, registering the production of 1 million EVs.

The MEB platform was introduced by the Volkswagen Group back in 2018 and is currently used on all its 'ID' badged electric cars. The MEB architecture is also used by EVs across other VW Group brands as well. This includes VW, Skoda, Audi, Cupra and VW Commercial.

The MEB platform is underpinned across a wide range of products, across different categories. Starting from the ID.3 and all the way up to the upcoming ID.7. It also underpins the Audi Q4 e-tron, Q5 e-tron and the Skoda Enyaq iV.

Volkswagen Group is producing EVs from the five brands across eight factories in Europe, the USA and China. Reports suggest the VW Group has also teased a small EV, to be offered across Cupra, Skoda and VW brands.

Re: Volkswagen's MEB electric car platform achieves 1 million production milestone

Volkswagen reduces production of electric cars after falling sales.

Automaker reduced one shift on electric vehicle lines at German factory and extended vacation period.

Quote:
A section of Volkswagen's Emden plant in northwestern Germany will remain closed for six weeks, according to a new report. Factory workers on electric vehicle lines will have an extended one-month break in the summer, and one shift will be canceled for two weeks.
Quote:
also announced a reduction in the number of workers at the plant. 300 of the 1,500 temporary workers will not have their contracts renewed in August 2023. The shrinking workforce and long holidays point to one conclusion: This is a sales crisis.
Quote:
Demand for electric vehicles is down 30 percent compared to the original production figures. In addition, potential buyers of electric vehicles are showing signs of reluctance, Wulff told the Nordwest Zeitung. Production of the ID.7, originally scheduled for July 2023, has been pushed back to the end of this year.

Re: Volkswagen's MEB electric car platform achieves 1 million production milestone

Volkswagen reduces production of the CUPRA Born and VW ID.3 due to low demand for these electric cars.

Quote:
The demand for electric vehicles produced by Volkswagen is falling and the company can do nothing but adjust production to the current situation in the market.
Production of the ID.3 in Dresden will be suspended between 2 and 15 October. All these electric vehicles are closely related on a technical level. They make use of the Volkswagen Group's MEB platform. An architecture dedicated exclusively to battery electric vehicles.

Re: Volkswagen's MEB electric car platform achieves 1 million production milestone

Volkswagen to overhaul entire electric car line-up in 2026.

- Volkswagen will launch heavily updated versions of its ID models from 2026 as part of a significant upgrade to the MEB architecture on which they are based.

- Along with the launch of a new ID 2 SUV concept car at the 2025 Munich motor show, a 2025 revamp for the Polo, a slimming down of the brand’s combustion engine range when EU7 emissions regulations kick in next year, and the role Rivian would play in the development of future VWs.

- “Huge improvements” from 2026 to the current ID range would include an all-new look that is “going back to where we came from”, as well as improvements in battery costs and overall performance and new functionality.

- Development of the production version of the VW ID 2all concept car remained on track for a late 2025/early 2026 launch.

- As the second VW model to be built off the MEB Entry architecture, a SUV variant of the ID 2 will also be previewed at the Munich motor show in September 2025.

-A GTI version of the ID 2 is also planned and has been previewed by a concept car,

- First electric GTI launches in 2026.

- Polo will likely continue with the updated EU7 emission norms and would receive an extensive update at the same time.

-There was no end date for the MQB architecture as electric car uptake had not been as predicted.
