Rumour: Mahindra BE.05 tech specs & expected launch timeline

Mahindra has been working on its ‘Born Electric’ range of SUVs for some time now. The carmaker plans to launch five new electric SUVs by 2026, and the BE.05 will be among the first ones to go on sale in India.

Mahindra BE.05 electric SUV spied for the first time-mahindrabe05leftfrontthreequarter2.jpg

Latest rumours suggest that the Mahindra BE.05 is likely to be unveiled in November, with deliveries planned for early 2025. Prices will be announced sometime between the unveiling and the commencement of deliveries.

We’ve been told that Mahindra is benchmarking the BE.05 with models like the Ioniq 5, Volkswagen ID.5, and even premium offerings like the Mercedes EQS, Tesla Model Y, and Volvo C40. It gives us a hint of what we can expect, in terms of performance.

The BE.05 will be based on Mahindra’s INGLO platform, which uses components from Volkswagen’s MEB architecture. Mahindra is said to be developing three powertrain options for the BE.05, including two RWD and one AWD variant. It could be offered with two battery options: 79 kWh and 82 kWh, with a range of around 586 km. The carmaker is also developing LFP batteries for its future EVs.

In terms of performance, the base RWD version of the BE.05 is said to be capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, while the performance version completes the dash to 100 km/h in just 6 seconds. The AWD version is a lot quicker thanks to better traction. It is said to reach 100 km/h in 5 seconds.

We have also learnt that the BE.05 is likely to come with fabric interiors. Compared to other Born Electric models, it could also miss out on some features, such as the head-up display. The SUV is said to ride on 20-inch wheels, shod with 245/50 R20 tyres.

Re: Rumour: Mahindra BE.05 tech specs & expected launch timeline

This sounds like great news! If what is stated in this article turns out to be true, this product may be a very quick seller.

However about the timelines, it seems a little unlikely as the XUV.e8 and .e9 seem to be the product that Mahindra was gearing up to launch first.

The BE05 was recently spotted on an ad shoot in Spain. Looks like Mahindra will launch the BE05 first since it has a radically unique styling thus standing out from the recent launches. SUV-coupes seem to be in trend as well so that may be a consideration too.

As per ACI, the BE 05 will be available in AWD and RWD trims while the e9 will be RWD only.
Pricing is estimated to be 20-25 lakhs for the BE 05 and 25-30 lakhs for the e9.

If it's based on VW MEB architecture, I don't think the two battery configurations will be 79 kWh and 82 kWh. It's just an 82 kWh battery with 77 kWh usable capacity. It's the same across all the MEB models like VW ID4, Skoda Enyaq, and the latest Skoda Elroq. Most likely Mahindra will also bring a 63 kWh (59 kWh usable) option just like VW MEB models. This is necessary to compete with BYD Atto 3 and MG ZS EV and keep the entry price low. Only releasing BE05 with just a ~80 kWh battery does not make sense as it is a small vehicle (4.37m) and they also have 4 other bigger BEV models in the pipeline. In addition, they already publicly announced that INGLO platform will support battery capacities between 60-80 kWH.

If Mahindra plays its cards right and prices the 60 kWh variant well, it can cover the entire Creta segment and Rs 15 to Rs 25 lakh price points with BE05. Remember, they don't have any normal ICE SUVs to capture the market from Creta, Seltos, and Grand Vitara twins.

Re: Mahindra BE.05 electric SUV spied for the first time

The specs and prices are too good to be true. Also, the BE.05 was supposed to be launched in September 2025, with the XUV.E8 and E9 preceding it.

I expect the single motor 230hp engine and 60kwh price for around 23-25 lakhs. Anything else is probably setting up for disappointment as the pricing won’t match your expectations. There’s no way they can make the AWD and 80kwh priced below 35 lakhs which doesn’t make sense for a 4.3m vehicle in India (people love big vehicles here).

Even at 60kwh and 230hp under 25 lakhs this will be a day 1 buy for me, assuming they don't screw up interior space like the Curvv.

Re: Mahindra BE.05 electric SUV spied for the first time

If the Autocar India specs are to be believed, Mahindra has a real ace up its sleeve. A potential car to make EVs mainstream in India. Maybe Mahindra wishes to replicate the success of its prior ICE launches.

I did a quick comparison of dimensions of popular EVs in India. I must disclaim that BYD Atto 3 ER and Ioniq may not be direct rivals. However, upon comparing I found that BE.05 though being being only 4.3 meters, easily has the class-leading wheelbase. We are talking XUV700/Skoda Kodiaq Level Wheelbase. And for Indians that love to factor-in the stray scenario where three adults may be required to sit abreast, this easily has more width - far more than segment and it compares to bigger cars such as Hyundai Ioniq 5 :

If Autocar India is to be believed on the Valeo Motor and the BYD Battery specs, then we are surely looking for a car that is looking to benchmark itself against the Ioniq 5, which is at least 2 segments above and not the the 20-25 lakh segment.

Things may get even crazier if the VW motor with 285BHP and 500NM is launched or the 80kWh battery is launched.

This car may not only democratise performance at a budget, but also force others to correct their pricing strategies or product offerings.

Re: Mahindra BE.05 electric SUV spied for the first time

That actually looks quite stunning! Would be interesting to know proportions compared to the Currv, and battery figures, if any. Also does Mahindra now use the latest battery architecture, and not the one from the XUV400?

Re: Mahindra BE.05 electric SUV spied for the first time

Mahindra's cars are becoming interesting and to the level of global scale!

We can see this with the way XUV700 & Scorpio N are received in Australia and Africa. I am hearing fair numbers about Mahindra's sales and brand image in countries like New Zealand too.

I have covered their upcoming launches in this thread and have also made a detailed video of BE.05 and XUV e9 here!

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...-mahindra.html (Upcoming Cars - ICE & BEVs from Mahindra & Mahindra)

Just to be specific, BE.05 will be competing with the TATA Curvv EV and we can not expect a so generous second-row space. But this is gonna kill the Nexon EV Max for sure.

Do check out our dedicated video on the BE05 & XUV e9 here

If Mahindra-VAG partnership goes green, they may likely get access to the VAG's APP310 & 550 motors and we may be lucky to see this in the BE07, BE09, and Thar.e. Their partnership with Valeo will continue

++ I see Mahindra is investing more on suspension now, so the HRS (Hydraulic Rebound) and the MTV-CL may become standard across the lineups on top of the FSD/FDD.

According to me, XUV e9 (coupe XUV700) and XUV e8 (Electric Version of 700) will be coming with all the bells & whistles ticking the boxes of comfort, power, range and convenience at 25-35Lks range. BE.07 may be slotted slightly above the XUV e9 is my take.

Fingers Crossed until Dec24/26Jan25.

Wow! The A-pillar and the rear does give strong Kia EV6 GT vibes. Looking at how EV6 GT’s have had good response with its brilliant performance, the BE.05 should do well with enthusiasts considering AWD and its disruptive design.

Had spotted two of their BEV cars under camouflage, just outside their Chakan plant, a couple of months back.

Looks overdesigned and garish. Whatever happened to timeless and classic car designs! Will we ever get something like an OG Polo with a 500 km battery range? Or something like the Scorpio Classic with a 500 km battery range? Aerodynamics and all are fine, but I'm pretty sure this design language of next gen Mahindras will age rapidly and look much worse in the next 10 years.

I agree. I don't like this bit. The back side is too raised up as well. Still feels like a design concept.

Re: Mahindra BE.05 electric SUV spied for the first time

One more Mahindra vehicle where everyone under the sun will bash it for it's design - XUV700, ScorpioN and Roxx.

However, the moment we get feature details, pricing and proper media and real life pictures, the whole outlook will change.

I hope Mahindra smashes it and forces other automakers to get serious with their offerings.
