Tata Punch Electric unveiled, bookings open

Tata Electric Punch spotted in Pune. This can be confirmed by the absence of exhaust pipe. The interior of the punch was similar as ICE Punch.

The squarish element on the front bumper looks like a radar for ADAS. However I am not sure about this.

re: Tata Punch Electric unveiled, bookings open

I am ready to exchange my ICE Punch with this Punch EV when it launches. This should get minimum 30kW Battery. Range should be 280-320 kms. Also, hope that EV will get some additional features to justify the premium price over Petrol Variants.

Good to know TML has started testing EV on Alpha platform!
Considering the current offering of EVs Nexon and Tiago are on the older X1 platform.
Will have to wait and watch what advantage Alpha platform has over the X1 platform.

Great scoop, IMHO this is going to be the significant ever EV launch in India, ICE punch is a natural replacement for WagonR, this EV variant will be an ICEing on that cake.

Side note MSIL lost an opportunity to launch an affordable EV with Spresso top hat and Comet speca, Tata might rule further stronger.

Few other pics with rotary dial, EPB etc

Congratulations to TML for 200K punch volume milestone, 52 weeks high share prices and 5000CR quarterly profits. True fighter! What a turn around.

Based on what's seen in the pics above:

- Gets a rotary gear knob
- Will get rear disc brakes
- Electronic parking brake to be present as well

re: Tata Punch Electric unveiled, bookings open

Fantastic . Tata's EV division is on a roll! As I'd commented on the Tiago / Tigor EV threads, a Punch EV isn't just about cheap running costs or calculating ROI. It is overall, the superior variant. Reasons:

- A nice EV drive with that torque & acceleration low down, compared to the weak & weedy 1.2L NA motor of the petrol.

- Smooth "AT" driving experience, compared to the extremely jerky Punch AMT.

- Top levels of refinement, compared to the Punch's unrefined 3-cylinder petrol.

- Other benefits such as having your own fuel station at home, low fuel costs, lower maintenance, green plate image etc.

This is unlike the Nexon, for instance, which has tasty turbo-petrol & turbo-diesel options. But with budget cars & weak engines, electric is the superior choice from all angles.

Finally, the Punch is getting the specs it deserved. In the case of the ICE variant, specs were most probably kept lowered to avoid hurting Nexon sales.

Also, in the images its not clear where the battery pack has been placed. Can't see an inflated belly a la eC3. Since, its the Sigma platform, it might be below the floor as well.

Scoop! Tata Punch EV prototype spotted on a flatbed

The Tata Punch EV has been captured on camera for the first time. The camouflaged prototype was spotted on a flatbed near Lonavala recently.

At first glance, it might look like a regular Tata Punch. However, upon close inspection, you will realize that the car hasn't got an exhaust at the back. Also note that the test mule is equipped with rear disc brakes, which aren't available on the ICE version.

The exterior design of the Punch EV looks identical, with little to no changes on the outside. However, we can expect the EV to get a slightly tweaked front fascia and blue accents to differentiate it from the regular Punch.

While technical details of the all-electric Punch are not available, we can expect the car to be based on Tata's Ziptron architecture offering around 300 km of range. When launched, it will compete with the Citroen eC3 in the Indian market.

Thanks to Vishal for sending these images in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing them with other enthusiasts via this Team-BHP share page!

re: Tata Punch Electric unveiled, bookings open

Tata is truly Tesla of India. They had head-start over others, with due apologies to niche player Riva which barely sold, and they catered to budget-end of EV like no one else. MG ZS EV is good but pricey and looks are not so SUV-ish. Citroen EV is under-featured and I don't even want to speak about MG Comet. Punch EV is just what the doctor ordered. Those who find Nexon pricey and don't want low-GC hatchback look of Tiago/Tigor can now settle for Punch EV. It looks butch, SUV-ish and yet compact enough to squeeze through city traffic. Rear disc-brake suggests it may come with 30KW motor. Tata shouldn't worry if it eats up some of the sales of Nexon Prime variant. Better an in-house rival than an outsider. Waiting eagerly for it.

From the pictures of the car on a flat bed, the battery seems to be well within the body instead of protruding out like Nexon EV max. Hope they bring this with a 35kwh battery pack and costs within 15lakh for the top end.

More likely will be 30Kwh than 35 on top end. It's a smaller / lighter car than Nexon, so will get better range than what Prime gets with the same battery. Also at 15L for top end its more like to come with a 30Kwh battery as Nexon prime with same battery costs 17 lacs, and there is a price diff of approx 2 lacs in same spec ICE engine Punch and Nexon. Putting in a 35Kwh battery will take the price very close to Nexon Prime top end. Infact to price the lower end model less than 10 lacs they might use the 24Kwh battery pack Tiago LR offers.

Definitely, expecting better pricing. The 35kwh battery will give Punch longer range than EV max.

Just checked the ex showroom prices of (almost) Topend versions.
Tata Nexon Petrol AMT: ~13lakhs
Tata Nexon EV MAX: ~19lakhs( 6 lakhs difference)

Tata Punch Petrol AMT: ~9.5lakhs

I believe they can price at ~15lakhs, hopefully.
As always, my expectations and predictions are mostly wrong.

Tata.ev division is on roll. I completely agree with GTO that these cars are a big leap in driving experience against their ICE counterparts

This paired with a 30 kw battery which powering Nexon prime will be a game changer.

Tata has good roadmap of EVs before their born EV car.
