Tata delivers 10,000 Tiago EVs in under 4 months

Tata Motors has achieved a new sales milestone with the delivery of the 10,000th Tiago EV in less than 4 months, making it the fastest electric car to reach this milestone.

According to Tata Motors, more than 1,200 Tiago EVs have each been driven for over 3,000 km. More than 600 cars have each clocked over 4,000 km already. It is said that almost 90% of the charging is done at home, which amounts to cumulative savings of over Rs 7 crore when compared to the running cost of ICE cars.

The Tata Tiago EV is available in four variants with prices starting at Rs 8.69 lakh (ex-showroom). The car comes with two battery options: a 19.2 kWh battery pack offering a maximum range of 250 km and a 24 kWh battery offering 315 km (MIDC) on a single charge. The Tiago EV is compatible with fast charging. The battery can be charged from 10-80% in 57 minutes using a DC fast charger.

The announcement comes just days following the launch of the MG Comet EV. It is available in three variants priced from Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom).

This is quite an achievement and the EV policy of the TATA's seems to be paying dividends sooner. Tiago.ev is a very practical car in the EV segment and at this price tag can appeal to a lot many people.

I am sure the launch of MG Comet EV will have no dents in the sales rather it might just help ride on the small car EV segment craze. It is far more practical to the Comet anyday.

Kudos to Tata for the work on EVs. Look forward to see more from them.

Thnaks,
Deb

Re: Tata delivers 10,000 Tiago EVs in under 4 months

The petrol Tiago usually averages around 6500-7500 units a month, from last year’s numbers. This means that the EV, with its limited reach, is already doing 30-40% the volumes of the ICE car! Talk about becoming a smash hit. Tiago EV is the highest selling EV in India, and deservedly so. It is the perfect car for daily urban use.

Re: Tata delivers 10,000 Tiago EVs in under 4 months

2500 units / month is incredible! Kudos to Tata for a superbly executed electric car. The Tiago EV is perhaps selling more than the CNG & Diesel models of most of its competitors.

Add in the terrific Nexon EV & Tigor EV, and you know why Tata is the king of electric cars in India.

EDIT: Just realised there is no diesel competitor to the Tiago. R.I.P. Diesel, long live Electric What are the sales numbers for the Swift & Dzire CNG?

Great achievement by TATA. A very well priced and very practical car for people who have high city usage. And it can do occasional highway runs as well. And the reason for it is the ROI numbers, here is a small comparison

Great chart, thanks!

I think people looking at ROI are missing the point. What you get in an EV versus conventional cars:

- A "proper smooth AT" experience versus the Tiago's jerky AMT

- You have your own fuel pump at home

- A refined NVH experience

- Instant torque & better performance than that weak 1.2L NA petrol of the Tiago

It's not just running costs. EVs are superior to petrol cars in many ways. Not all, but many ways. In the higher segments, the fast turbo-petrols are more fun to drive. But with economy cars & boring 1.2L weedy NA engines, the electrics have so much more character.

Does anyone know what the status of the Sanand Ford factory, which was supposed to start producing EVs? The EV production volumes seem stuck currently.

We booked out top model Tiago EV on Feb 18. No mail from Tata, only booking receipt from dealer. And the waiting period written on dealer receipt is 2-3 months.

I am always checking waiting period on sites like cardekho etc, it used to say 1 month and now upto 2 months.

I am desperately waiting for our car.

Re: Tata delivers 10,000 Tiago EVs in under 4 months

Happened to see an ad for the Comet EV in a newspaper today. Intro price close to 8L. I'd rather get a Tiago EV instead.

Good to see Tata's strong performance in the EV segment, though some of these numbers may be due to some accumulated stock before the sales started. Tiago EV is well suited for city use. While I am still not getting on the EV wagon, want to see these numbers continue.

Re: Tata delivers 10,000 Tiago EVs in under 4 months

I have been out of the country for more than 3 years now and from what I keep reading on India and EVs; I am buoyant about getting myself an EV on return.

Things however change as soon I speak with folks and friends back home, they still don't think EVs to be a suitable alternate to ICE; not even for daily city commutes. Some of them are tech enthusiasts and early adopters; I have reasons to respect their opinion.

One of the friends did also suggest that most of the units shipped are from mass govt procurement or cab fleet orders.

How true is that? What would be the split between true retail end customer purchases versus bulk B2B or B2G purchase.

You're not alone in thinking this.

The Comet EV's pricing is absurd. I believe that it may actually end up boosting the sales of the Tiago EV, as it makes the Tiago comparatively look like excellent value.

Tata is only selling one product in the taxi market which is Xpress T(Tigor EV with different name). Probably they are selling 2000 of these as taxis and other B2B customers, few nexons to some govt departments. Most of their EVs sold as personal vehicles.

In Gurgaon I have used Blusmart cabs multiple times and they have an ever increasing fleet of Tata Electric cars. Until the data isn't segregated, we can't be sure on how much of these is bought by end users.
