Re: MG Comet EV Review

Any news on COMET accessories?
I was looking forward to the armrest that they advertised. However, the local dealers in Chandigarh or Mohali do not seem to have any accessories beyond the basic kit.

Re: MG Comet EV Review

I thought the handrest protrudes towards front (atleast on the videos it appears to be) defeating the purpose of free movement between driver and passenger seat so I didn't bother but still haven't gotten any response from the dealership on the extended warranty

Re: MG Comet EV Review

I was planning to buy comet Pace variant as my second car for city drive and test drove and was satisfied with it. But I was not keen towards booking and after a couple of weeks, I was offered an complete waveoff on insurance. The deal was good and I went ahead with the booking with 11k and requested VIN number to be shared once vehicle is alloted.

Around 2 to 3 days later got vehicle allocated from another city and VIN number stating July 2023 manufacturing date.
I'm still awaiting for the vehicle availability for inspection.

Any opinion on going ahead with vehicle with 2 months old manufacturing date? I hope its not display vehicle.

Re: MG Comet EV Review

Had a chance to test ride MG Comet yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised but the amount of space on offer. I am 6ft tall and I could fit in properly with enough space in the back when front seat was adjusted to me. Performance is zippy and fit and finish levels are great. Media console is good but speakers are just sad. OTR in pune prices are 8.5, 9.5 & 10.5 lakhs for base, mid and top variant. Battery comes with 8 years/120,000 kms warranty where the cells will be replaced in case of any faults. As per the sales person, battery itself costs 7 lakhs.

I am very intrigued to make it my first car as primarily I drive within the city and one can always rent out a car for outstation trips.

It is an extremely value for money car for cities like Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore. Anyways we guys hardly get to go above 30 kmph I too test drove it and was really impressed other than the punny rickshawish tyres.

Re: MG Comet EV Review

Comet owner here.
Among the others here, am facing similar niggles like the regen disconnect while going over bumpy roads, and the steering buttons not working. Forced to use the voice commands to do these things.
Glad to see the issues identified and hope that MG comes out with fixes soon.

Re: MG Comet EV Review

Today, I observed a new issue, possibly a bug. When the Comet's battery dropped below 10%, the instrument cluster didn't display the range, although it was visible in the infotainment system. This raises the question: what's the purpose of not showing the range in the instrument cluster? I've noticed that many automobile companies seem to overlook software quality, whether in the infotainment system, digital cluster, or mobile app. Most products reach consumers with incomplete programming and a plethora of bugs, resembling half-baked software.

it's been 4 months of trouble-free Comet experience except for ergonomic issues like poor under-thigh support, raised A & B pedal, and seat belt placement but if we ignore these shortcomings, this is the best for our daily city commute.

How is the ride quality over broken roads and large speed breakers?

Re: MG Comet EV Review

How's the resale value of MG Comet? I'm looking for one but from used market for a better VFM.
I understand it's too soon to get options in pre-used but how slow/ fast would the value depreciate?

Seems to be an MG thing. I've a Hector and it hides DTE once the the fuel tank hits reserve.

I understand this is not a bug but as per design as seen in some review videos to encourage us to charge asap though it doesn't hurt to display the range. I also saw it could manage to go good distance after reaching 0% which I wouldn't date to validate though.

It's decent at Max when you drive slowly over potholes and speed breakers that it doesn't touch the bottom. However at moderate speeds you can't say the same. It does take a hit.

So if I shift into neutral and unlock the door, the seatbelt will unfasten and stow itself? Definitely got to experience it

Hahaha… fair point!
But I’m going to try it myself too, now that you mention it.

Re: MG Comet EV Review

Had booked a Nexon LR+ top spec but cancelled it as the more I sat in and tried the demo car, the more I started to dislike it and feel it all gimmicks, no quality. Not to mention the headspace is nuts and entering and exiting it, you need to duck a little bit.
And I am 5.6ft

Later had moved to book a ZS EV (wanted to last year as well, but due to wait times got a 2022 octavia instead), but after re-evaluating my decision, decided against it as next year new generation of EVs are expected to arrive, and my dream EV is still the Ioniq, which is out of budget right now.

Was checking out the Comet when I had gone to book the ZS EV, and out of nowhere, the Sales Manager offered me to keep the Comet for 2 days and try it, at first thought I misheard him for a test drive at home after 2 days. Was really surprised by the offer and gladly accepted it.
The car was dropped at my home and I was told to keep it for 2-3 days, no strings attached, no terms or conditions on KMs driven, etc.

First day itself, hopped my friends in and took it for a drive from East->Center->Old Delhi, hell even took it to Sadar Bazar, and after seeing the crowd, took a U-turn in a single spin and on a narrow road, my octavia would have either gotten stuck or needed 3-4 times back and forth

To keep it short, really liked the car, we even tried max loading the car with 5 people, back was comfortable okay-ish for 30km drive and 30km drive back again (although 2 of them were slim).
The back has enough space for 2 persons easily, even did some luggage loading as my friend took the car to his office and pickup his sister from railway station.
In both scenarios, the car did not let me feel any impact on its performance or its taking a load-hit.

Real-world range I would say is 160-180km~ depending on driving style (I was pushing the car around 80-100kmph and between sports mode on merut expressway).
Drove it 200-250km in 2 days.

---------
Eventually, decided to ditch the Zs EV and book the Comet Plush. There is a really nice offer going on where MG is offering all 3 specs on-road, below their ex-showroom price.
So the Pace is costing 7.2L and Plush is costing 9.3L on-road.
There is 0 road tax in U.P. now and a additional 1L subsidy.

So actual cost for Comet for me is 6.2L for pace (bloody steal of a price) and 8.3L~ for Plush. That's almost saving 2L over normal onroad price, and perhaps 3-3.5L saving for states charging road tax.

My plan is to use Comet as a every day car and my octavia for long trips, normally me and wife like to go for a delhi/coffee drive at night or early morning south indian breakfasts, which was costing us 10-15k in petrol for the Octavia (its mileage is around 10-11KM/L)

The way I am thinking about it is, if next year another ev comes which I like, or if I save enough for Ioniq, I can probably sell the Comet for a break-even price, if not profit next year, while enjoying all the petrol savings for a year and get depreciation and interest paid as expense for my company (yes, I am purchasing it in my company's name).
