Top speed is around 105 in sports mode.

Re: MG Comet EV Review

I'm comparing this to the Tata Tiago EV, since there is lack of any other EV competition.

MG Comet EV Review-screenshot-20230428-12.10.02.png

The Comet EV is priced quite well for what it offers. Overall, it's a pretty hard choice.

The Tiago XZ (top) long-range goes into a different price bracket. With a premium of Rs. 3.26 lakh, it's definitely a better vehicle, if budget isn't a consideration.

The Tiago XE (base) medium-range is just too barebones. It's a premium of Rs. 80,000 over the Comet, but absolutely not worth it unless you need the extra doors and interior space.

The Tiago XT (mid) long-range is overpriced for what it is, you're better off spending another Rs. 80K and getting the XZ variant.

It's the Tiago XT medium-range that ends up being a worthy competitor. The important features are all there. It's a premium of Rs. 1.4 lakh, but that additional money gets you 2 extra speakers and doors! (I can't believe I'm selling doors as a feature). You get a bit more power and interior space as well. The only miss is a rear camera, which one can easily get installed after-market.

Now, coming to the MG Comet EV, the main dealbreakers are only 2-doors, which make it a very impractical vehicle for ferrying elderly passengers, even if it's an occasional occurrence. Also say good-bye to family shopping trips. The MG Comet EV can fit at max you, your spouse, and bags in the rear seats.

If those considerations don't matter to you, it's quite good for what it offers at the price. Almost a perfect vehicle for one person's daily office commute.

If anyone was deciding between these 2 cars, I hope I have added to your confusion

Exactly my thoughts. I am not sure why would anyone pick Comet over Tiago XT MR expect for standing out in the crowd. I understand Comet is unique but its not like the car looks worth million bucks. If cheap & efficient city commuter is the need then I would recommend Tiago.ev XT MR over Comet. Even for a second or third car.

Re: MG Comet EV Review

Launch on one day, but not for all variants.
The price of the base variant is out, but features are revealed only for the top variant.
No details about variants at all, not even the name, let alone the features.
Colour options were announced earlier and then changed last minute.
As your campaign says, #CutTheCrap MG. Get your act straight!

Re: MG Comet EV Review

Well, I don't really see why anyone would buy this. Not too sure about the "Drive Something Sexy" part either. It does look cute though and the white interior is aesthetically very pleasing (I'm a fan of white interiors). I was really rooting for this little car but I did receive a shock (pun intended) when I saw the price. 8 Lakhs for something that can fit around 4 people and has questionable safety? No thank you. The Tiago EV makes much more sense. Still a cool car though.

PS: The line with "8 Lakhs for something..." actually kind of sounded like I was describing pretty much every A segment hatchback except the Tiago.

The lightness of driving, compactness, maneuverability in the crowded streets, ease of maintainance. I find this Comet EV more practical and convinient compared to bulky, car like Tiago.

I was expecting Mahindra Atom, Mahindra could have launched in this avatar. But looks like Mahindra is dragging its feet.

This car is clearly not made for airport runs or shopping with a full house. Neither does MG want the buyers to undertake intercity travels in the comet. It's a regular commuter car for people who travel solo or at max with 2 folks. It's USP is it's small size ( to zip through the traffic) and lower running costs.
Regarding the boot space, rear seats can be folded down to generate cargo room!

Re: MG Comet EV Review

For me this is a non starter. I will definitely invest in a Tiago which is a much safer car, has proper 4 doors and seating space. This really looks like a cartoon and I don't think the car will do too well in India.

Re: MG Comet EV Review

Hello, I am in market for a second car for my daughter. I was earlier tempted to MG Hector 2023 (for myself), but didn't like it. Idea was to give my existing Honda City to daughter & I drive Hector.

I was always tempted to go for EV however, its initial cost (Nexon EV) never inspired me to go ahead. My yearly drive is mainly in Delhi NCR (98%) and hence I wanted an automatic with very good fuel efficiency. My current monthly expense on petrol is close to Rs.11,000/-.

I was following Comet EV for some time and had anticipated introductory price of Rs.6.99 lacs for base model. I am still not sure (after reading some comments on the forum after launch) whether media drive car is base model (available for 7.98 lacs) or top model which will later be available at a higher price. As of now I am hoping that media drive Comet is same which is available for 7.98 lacs.

I am kind of ok with its look and space as over the last 10 years I have always been alone driving to office & back home. Some time I have maximum one or two colleagues driving back home, but that is once in 3 or 4 months. So essentially I need an automatic car to be driven by me alone with excellent fuel efficiency.

I did some math (as attached) and found Comet or Tiago XT EV make sense to buy because I would require the car for maximum 6 years after that I will get a new car (this will be office entitlement car).

I have not yet test driven Tiago EV or Comet, but if media drive Comet is same car which is available for 7.98 lacs then probably it is a better choice for me. I will continue to drive my Honda City for family drive & highway requirements.

All in all, I like Comet as an overall package for the price and I find MG electric cars more reliable than say Hyundai, Mahindra or Tata

Everything you mentioned is great except for pricing. The 8L ex showroom pricing unveiled is for Base variant, the top variant which is being advertised in media drives will hit 7 digits. There will be 3 variants. Please update
Your infographics so that people don't get a bad idea.

No, the media drive vehicle is the Top variant and the price revealed is of Base variant. Please don't hold your horses, as the top variant with all the functions is going for 7 digit amount.

Re: MG Comet EV Review

This is a fantastic product. And i seriously hope it remains a niche one as well.
It also has a convertible version, hope MG throws all the custom options at customer.

If the car is customizable, i think the price point will then be worth it.
Frankly speaking this is all the car ( size wise ) that people need for their commute.

Why isn't someone coming out with a 2 seater EV? that will be much more cheaper and fun to own as a second/third car.

Re: MG Comet EV Review

How can companies be so dumb? In India, 2 door cars never got any success, that' a well known and proven fact. How can they launch something like this without digging into history? Without doing any study, MG has launched this quirky looking Auto-Rikshaw here. I am sure it is going to fail here. I will never pay my hard earned 10 lakhs on this Auto-Rikshaw, instead I will pay 2 lakhs more and get Tiago EV for sure. It's a proper 4 door car with handsome looks.
