Tesla supercharger network now open to other electric vehicles at select sites across USA

Tesla has officially started allowing other 'non-Tesla' electric vehicles to use the brand's supercharger network in the USA. Electric vehicles from other car brands can now charge their cars at select Tesla supercharging stations across the USA.

According to reports, Tesla stated that the opening up of its supercharging network to non-Tesla EVs will help encourage more people to transition to electric. Reports also stated that the American EV maker has committed to opening up 7,500 of its charging stations to non-Tesla EVs by the end of 2024.

Customers with non-Tesla EVs can download the Tesla App and find the nearest supercharging station. Payments can be done either by the 'Pay per charge' method or via a monthly membership of $12.99. The company explains that the price will be higher for non-Tesla customers, as the stations will have to be adjusted to support and accommodate a range of other EVs.

Re: Tesla supercharger network now open to other electric vehicles at select sites across USA

Here is a wonderful video that highlights the pros & cons of using the Tesla superchargers with other cars. I personally think it is a great move and there is a new generation of the super chargers (version 4) that addresses some of the problems mentioned like cable length.

As a note, if you haven't seen this YouTube Channel (Maruques Brownlee) before, you should go through his videos.

They also started offering unlimited overnight electricity for 30$ in Texas.

Unlike what many people have said here about electricity prices increasing as more EVs penetrate, such offers will be common as more and more renewables are added. EVs help in balancing the grid.

In the future we will get smart chargers which can turn on within seconds when the grid requests them to take charge as there is excess energy in the grid, the said technology is already being tested.
