Re: Hyundai Ioniq 5 Review

My biggest issue with moving from ICE to EV fully was the range numbers of the current lot of EV cars available.

I recently took the plunge and got the Ioniq 5 as my primary and only car and sold my 6 year old Tiguan.

I am solely relying on public chargers since the home charger isn't set up yet (personal reasons). Public chargers are supremely unreliable in my opinion and experience of the last 3 weeks. Most people I are also just concerned about the charging infra availability and reliability especially for trips out of town (they usually don't do road trips)

Hi Sahilj - I can understand your problem as here in Noida I live in a high-rise apartment where one person who own Nexon EV Max often call some external vendor for charging his Nexon EV. Person come in Maruti Eco which has fast charger kept inside it. They are fast charger company.

However, when I was considering EV (haven't yet bought as waiting for Punch EV), I tried to find a solution as my society do not have charging facility for EV (likely to start but don't know when), I managed to find a gated FNG where they have 3 fast chargers and the owner agreed to allow me to use their either fast charger or even agreed on to use 16AMP plug with their electricity point for overnight slow charging. I offered him Rs.8/- to Rs. 10/- per unit charges for slow charging which he politely agreed. FNG is just 200 meter away from my society so whenever I keep my EV for overnight slow charging I can go to workshop next morning at 7am to bring back my EV in my society parking lot.

You can also try to find a reliable & trustworthy place to charge your Ioniq 5 walking distance from your home till you get your EV charger installed.

I believe you need to charge your EV once a week (Sunday night hopefully)

That company is called hopcharge and they are doing quite well in Delhi ncr. They provide on-demand charging at any location. They are widely used specially where there are alot of societies and they are not allowing personal chargers

Re: Hyundai Ioniq 5 Review

I am in Mumbai and have 3 DC fast chargers in a 2-4 kms radius from my place. 1 Jio BP has been offline for the past 2 weeks. One Tata charger doesn't work when you need it. Finally found another one in a bus depot thats newly installed.

I went to Pune 2 weeks ago and same story. Had to spe!nd 2 hours driving around looking for a fast charger since I had to drive back to Bombay the next day.

However, I am currently in negotiations with the society about getting my home charger installed. They are evaluating the possibility of getting a shared public charger for the society

Re: Hyundai Ioniq 5 Review

I have primarily used BESCOM FC for my nexon EV, never had any problem with public FC other than the rare occassion of network down or power down. Most of the issues faced at FC can be resolved by the good old method of REBOOT.

For your home charging, your society might be having issue with 11kw charger, just go for a regular 16A socket, it might take longer but at least you will get some charging done better than not having anything.

Re: Hyundai Ioniq 5 Review

Quick update - The feasibility check is done by chargebays and Exicom team. They have sent me a quote for the extra wiring . 10 metre is free and since I am trying to put the charger in a place where people do not pass by too much ( to the lift lobby) , it will cost me an additional 7 to 8 Metres. The total cost for the wiring is around INR 6750 including 18% GST.

I am eagerly waiting for the car to arrive now as this feasibility check has only re-ignited hopes of getting the car early.

Will keep all of you posted on the progress. The color booked is Optic White.

@Alive2Drive, unfortunately the feasibility exercise has no bearing on delivery! They carried out the same for me 10 days after I booked mine in Gravity Gold. Expected delivery in 2 weeks now! So about 2 and half months in total!

For me I booked in Jan. The feasibility check happened in Feb. The delivery happened on 4th August!

I too have a quote for extra 12 mtr wiring about 10k.

Re: Hyundai Ioniq 5 Review

Finally got the call from Hyundai about payment and delivery of the car. One thing that's uncomfortable for me is that I was told that I don't get the VIN number details until the car is invoiced to me. Is that the case with everyone? Can someone confirm this please.

It is just that range will be reduced e.g. if new EV has range of 450km, after 8 years / 150000km it may come down to about 350 to 375km (in case of Ioniq 5) and 200 to 225 in case of Nexon EV Max / MG ZS EV.

On the other hand, 8 years is a long time and by the time user either get bored with his/her EV vehicle or technology become so advanced that particular EV will become outdated. In that case user will have difficulty in finding buyer for old EV. Most likely the only option left with the EV user is to scrap his/her EV.

I am attaching an ownership cost assumption sheet comparting EV with Petrol AT and Hybrid AT on 8 years about 1 lac km driven. Hope this will be useful to those who want to understand value proposition of EV vs Petrol / Hybrid

The biggest assumption that's made here is Fuel cost will remain the same, when it has almost doubled in the past 6-7 years. While in the same period the average electricity cost has gone up about 18-20% in the same period. One more minor assumption is fuel economy, which goes down about 15% for ICE engines after about 50k kms. Granted this long term effect on EVs is still undocumented.

I never bothered to check for VIN, but I didn't get any vehicle details & neither did I bother to see if I got any. But I think it's only fair that they provide the vehicle details after invoicing is done.

Should be fine, since you've paid your amount. You have a receipt & online confirmation about the booking. So it should be safe.

That’s standard procedure for this car.
You have to make full payment then submit all the required documents and only then in 2 working days will you be getting the invoice with the VIN number. And then you need to get the insurance done. I had similar apprehensions but checked with other buyers and it seems to be how their process works!

I had make the booking on 15th August and have been committed a timeline of End of September for the car to leave the factory. Since it will be sharad time that now, it will be pushed to 15th October (First navratras) unless they send the car sooner.

Keeping fingers crossed and lets hope for the best.

Hi, Sorry not being able to PM you, how has been your experience with the Gravity Gold Matte Color? How effective has the ceramic coating been? I'm planning the same when I get mine delivered. Any advice?
Thanks.
