Re: Hyundai Ioniq 5 Review

Yeah, I have never understood the benefit case for hybrids either.

You pay for two systems of different types and their maintenance - all for a few km increase in milage. I strongly doubt if the additional costs can ever be recovered over its lifetime, given that maintenance costs are going to be higher than a normal ICE vehicle, in addition to regular refuelling.

Whereas EVs will most certainly recover the additional cost paid at purchase within 5 years in fuel savings alone, not to mention additional savings in maintenance over an ICE vehicle.

Re: Hyundai Ioniq 5 Review

After reading this post, I was quite interested in the Ioniq5, so I called up the Hyundai dealer in Dubai!

1. They only have the 2023 model Ioniq5, which is sold at AED 180k after an AED 10k discount.

2. The Ioniq6 is not available, and they will only import the 2025 model. The expected price is AED 235,000/-, and the service interval is every 10k kilometers.

My two questions were

1. Since this is an electric car, what do you do every 10k kilometers and
2. How is this electric one then different from ICE if I bring it for service every 10 kilometers?

No answers!

I asked him what your USP is compared to Tesla: The price of Model Y is 232K, which is 3K cheaper, and the service interval is 30K, but again, no answer.

Finally, he said Tesla is Chinese and ours is Korean! I told him that he needed to do his homework properly since he was in sales and the wrong information would put off the customer (just like me). I told him he has to read the TBHP portal and upgrade his knowledge,, as this is his bread and butter.

End of story: I went and booked a Tesla Model Y

I guess it's Diesel for me for the next five years and then onto a Strong Hybrid (PHEV if launched by then). If our Government reduces the taxes for Hybrids, we can see more options.
Hybrids are a sham in today's context. I would recommend researching charging points on your common drives out of Bangalore / south of India - I can pretty much guarantee the south of India is covered ( Andhra/Telagana I haven't driven much), but if you were to open Plugshare and see you will see very very good coverage and Zeon, Chargezone, Redux, Jio BP Pulse, Shell and many more are doing a fantastic job (and now considering price reductions as well).

Got a message from Hyundai today. Anyone else got it too?

"Dear Customer,
Hope you are having pleasant driving experience with your Hyundai IONIQ 5 vehicle.

This is to inform you that your vehicle is falling under the list of vehicles to be inspected for the necessary upgrade of ICCU software. Please get in touch with your nearest Hyundai Authorized Dealer for more details, necessary inspection and rectification.

Please be assured that this campaign activity is free of cost.

Thank you.

Regards,
Hyundai Motor India"

Here's a link to the thread I started on this topic when a recall was started globally - https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/elect...niq-5-ev6.html (Hyundai/Kia to recall 500,000 EVs globally to replace ICCUs | Includes Ioniq 5 & EV6)

My car went in for the first year service a month ago. They did some software updates which took almost the whole day. So I think they performed this update on my car.

I was told this came in from Hyundai India just yesterday. Seems to be in line with the ICCU recall being done in other markets.

Hi All,

My boot throws a strange sound whenever i hit a speed breaker. Which is more like a creek sound. Is anyone else also facing this issue ? Also, any proposed solution for this ?

This is most likely from the rear hatch lock. This is a known issue and has had a TSB released in other markets. The recommended fix from Hyundai is to fix a couple of washers onto the rear hatch for a more snug fit. Owners have reportedly fixed it by applying duct tape to the latch.

"...are not without its frustrations" that's putting it as mildly as possible I feel. The highlight should be the phenomenal journey you undertook spanning 3000 kms. Instead, it's just chargers and charging and hours lost and what not. To top that, it's with a premium EV that boasts around 500 kms of range. An average guy with an average EV would be absolutely flustered in this mess. Ad-hoc travelers like me even more so.

Here's how I see it: my family likes to take a half-hour break every 3-4 hours, so I search for chargers near eateries. This approach works perfectly for us. We get to refresh ourselves while the car charges. I'm sharing this during my third 3000 km trip this year. As a family, we've fallen in love with the Ioniq.

Right rear tyre got three punctures, first time saw foam in tyre for acoustics. Wish hyundai had atleast provided space saver.

Ioniq 5 comes with a tyre repair kit and no space saver or a full size extra tyre as other cars are usually equipped. This must be due to limited space availability or purely for cost savings. Either way, can be a concern when travelling on a longer route. Many members have faced issues while travelling long distances.
