The disinterest from private players is not surprising, especially given that lithium production is expected to outstrip the demand over the next few years. All major lithium miners are under pressure in the stock market.

That said, this is one of those resources where the Govt needs to step in and invest in to it (PSU and the ilk) to secure national interest.
The Chinese have managed to do that already.

No takers for Jammu and Kashmir lithium blocks in second bid.

The block was put up for auction in March, with May 14 as the cutoff for bids.

After it failed to get a required minimum of three bids in its first auctions in November, the block was again put up for auction in March with a May 14 deadline for bids.
