Re: BYD Atto 3 Review

Hi guys..

Has anyone fitted a dashcam in their Atto 3?
Not the BYD original dashcam.
If so, please give details.

Thank you..

Re: BYD Atto 3 Review

Hi All
I have booked my Atto 3 Superior variant in Sep 2024, but it seems that the Superior variant is discontinued by BYD as confirmed by 2 dealers - Central BYD Bhubaneswar and Karini BYD, Kolkata.

I have written to BYD India email and waiting for their response.

Does anyone know if there are plans for BYD to discontinue Atto 3 or get an upgrade in 2025.

I will take delivery of my Atto3 Dynamic in the next few days. While looking for an appropriate dashcam that fits flush with the rear-view mirror and ADAS sensor housing, I found 2 viable options:

1. BYD's "factory" dashcam (https://www.topbyd.com/products/byd-...ted-dash-cam): The ADAS sensor housing has the perfect cutout to fit the dashcam, but hard-wiring it is a mess. You must insert one cable end under the dashboard, where your knees rest. Then you must route the cable through the glovebox, sneak it under the window seals, and smush it under the roof line starting at the A-pillar. Here's the only video (in English) for this procedure:

While most folks have chosen this option, I would recommend against it. You have to route the cable right by the A-pillar airbag! Other people posted similar concerns on the YouTube video and provided other alternatives (if you must).

2. Third-party but made-for Atto 3 dashcam (https://www.topbyd.com/products/car-...ing-recorder): This dashcam seems like the perfect middle-ground. It doesn't stick out as much and is easily hard-wired. Here's a video that walks through the installment procedure:

This camera draws power from the dome lights/sunroof controls. You must open the sunglass tray and unscrew it to access the power cable. I have watched all BYD Atto 3 Dynamic reviews from India, but no one has shown any sunglasses holder. I don't think the Dynamic variant or maybe the India variant Atto 3 has it. I will update this review once my dealer relays any new information.

PS: Feel free to DM me any links to BYD Atto 3 India owners' groups or if you have any queries.

Congratulations on getting the car.

Coming to dashcams, the main purpose of having it to have a proper evidence in case of any mishap. Sadly the ones BYD makes and the one from TopBYD are both 1080p. You must account for low light visibility and that's where these dashcams will fail big time since they have older gen image sensor. Always look for the one which has Sony Starvis 2 sensor and a dual channel now a days is a must have. The best dashcams available in India right now are Redtiger F77 and Viofo A329. Both of them are dual channel dashams. Redtiger has an edge because it offers dual 4K recording. There are many reviews available in YouTube so do go through the videos and decide.

For my BYD Atto3 dynamic, I chose the option given by PPS BYD, Bangalore showroom. They fitted a Blaupunkt dash cam.

I recently completed a long drive in my BYD ATTO3 Dynamic for the first time The range with full charge is around 350 kms.

BYD Atto 3 Review-45kwh.jpeg

BYD Atto 3 Review-50kwh.jpeg

Journey: Bangalore to Kavali and Nellore to Hyderabad and Hyderabad to Bangalore.

To find charging stations, I used the following apps:

- Plugshare
- Statiq

Bangalore to Kavali:

- Starting SoC: 100%
- Charging Stop: Nandi Food Plaza before Chittoor (note: this charging station is often occupied by electric buses traveling between Tirupathi and Bangalore)
- SoC: 55% to 90% (~30 minutes)
- No additional stops were needed to reach my destination. There are other charging stations near Chittoor Bypass and Tirupathi.

Kavali to Hyderabad:

- This route does NOT have good charging infrastructure.
- Starting SoC: 100%
- Charging stop: Hotel Vivera charging station in Vijayawada-Hyderabad highway at 5% of SoC

BYD Atto 3 Review-5_percent.jpeg

- Charged till SoC becomes 50%. (Time taken: ~40 minutes)

No other stops till destination. There is one charging station near Miryalaguda by Voltron. However it is on the other side of the road. So, I skipped this.

Hyderabad to Bangalore:

- This route has best charging infrastructure
- Most of the food courts have charging stations.
- I used three charging stations
- First one is at drift nation (Jadcherla) from SoC: 70% to 85% (~15 minutes)
- Second one is a Hyundai charging station near Miduthuru. SoC: 20% to 80% (It took so much time to get this charge because of the outside temperature (36 degrees), even though the charger is 150 KW, it charged the battery at 30KW (max: 70KW for few minutes)
- Samara restaurant: Zeon charing station. SoC: 30 to 50%

No other stops till destination, reached home with 25% SoC.

How was driving the Atto 3 at 5% like?
Was there any change in engine performance or power lag?

It was running exactly the same.

I was a little worried when the expected range display showed "---".

I wondered if it would stop immediately or if it would give a warning before shutting off the motor.

Re: BYD Atto 3 Review

I have been eyeing Atto3 Dynamic variant for past 1 month. I have not seen Dynamic variant in-person. The SA informed me that the interiors in Dynamic and Superior are the same. I am not too keen on ADAS and the variant with ADAS is out of my budget range.
Can someone who has bought Dynamic variant confirm this?
What is real range that can be expected from 49.2 kWh battery pack?

Hi..

Could you post pictures?

The dashcam & the battery pack.

Is it connected to the 12v socket?

Thank you.

What's your impression on the suspension / shock-absorption?

On all my recent journeys on the BYDs (mostly from Shoffr), I have invariably found knocking sounds from what appeared to be their suspension units.

I found this a problem with the EV6 only- with its mushy suspension setup. Did you see this in Atto3 as well?

I did not notice any issue with suspension unit. The suspension is very good in this car.

After using it for these many days, I am feeling that the thigh support in seats is not great.

Re: BYD Atto 3 Review

Hi all,

I have been giving "going electric" some thought of late (partially thanks to the single digit mileage of my turbo petrol in the city, and the somewhat large fuel bills I've been getting). While the Atto3 was always something I liked, after stepping into a friends vehicle during the time it launched, I walked into the BYD showroom in Bangalore recently. I even had a much older relative with experience in the auto industry accompany me.

We walked around the car and had a seat in the front and rear. We were essentially looking for flaws in the car (for example the Kia E9 has a rather poor rear seating position) and we found none. In fact, we were completely surprised with the package. The design and functionality are spot-on. The sales person said the dynamic variant is pretty well loaded, with the premium offering just a larger battery and ADAS. Even the range numbers (380-420 highway/ city) were reassuring (my running is mostly long distance 500km one way trip once a month and the route already has good charging infra).

So here's my question: the BE 6e is about 21L otr for pack 1 and pack 3 is 29L otr (Kerala). Then I also have to shell out for that home charger (lets say 2L as I also have to go back to a 3 phase connection). Is the Atto3 still worth the splurge?

As I was in the showroom and spoke about the pricing (the higher Atto3 variants are overpriced I feel), it also struck me, that by cutting pricing to remain competitive, BYD could easily sell say 3000+ units a month with ease (the Atto3 alone can go upwards of 5000 units a month as people see more on the road). If the Atto3 top variant is priced at say 30-32L otr and the base at 25L, I can easily see people flocking over. Is there a reason BYD has chosen to not go the volume route? Are these cars imported or bought in under special schemes that limit volumes?

I have experienced Atto3 and have felt that it is well built car. My salesperson also indicated that Dynamic variant gets everything except ADAS, 10kWh less battery and manually operated tailgate. The interior touch points, seat upholstery, cluster remain the same which makes Dynamic variant VFM for a good quality car. I am waiting for Mahindra XEV9E and Creta EV price reveal before taking plunge to get Atto3 Dynamic.
The only downside with new Atto3 is limited color options. Blue ones have longer waiting period and Red/Olive colors are no longer offered.

High prices of Atto3 are because the car is not manufactured or assembled in India. BYD recently got homologation certificate for Atto3. I also thought that Atto3 was now imported as CKD or SKD, but @newenergy corrected me that Atto3 is still imported as CBU which results in higher taxes.
Please refer to this post in XEV9E thread (Mahindra XEV 9e Review) for more details.
