Hello sushanthys,

Thank you.

I remember reading earlier in the thread that the dealership/BYD company will provide the portable charger for the early bird bookings for the facelift model. Did they change this?

I have not experimented with the battery level percentage to charging time ratio yet; but I do remember at one point, I had 27% charge remaining and I had put the car for charge with slow charging around 5pm or so. The estimated time required was around 25.5 hours. I had checked in the morning around 7-8am and saw that the charge level was around 65%.

My earlier point regarding BYD reducing the charging amperes was from this post. Link

Another interesting point is that the LFP cells of the BYD Atto 3 auto-balance themselves once the charge reaches 100%.

Sharing an interesting video of BYD battery management which I saw some time back.

I personally do not have any experience with the other brands portable chargers, but I will definitely consider getting the Zevpoint 16A charger within the next one year. As of now will continue with the 7.2kW charger.

Also, I think you might be able to continue with the charger which you had received with the MG ZS EV as up till earlier this year, BYD was using the services of Echargebays and the Exicom charger was supplied. I think in the dealership for charging of display vehicles they have the same Exicom charger.
Hi @themonster

I was told that BYD would provide the portable charger as complementary. But they changed their stance later. Funny enough, their website says the portable charger is included( under variants & features section, check under New Energy heading).

In their booking policy PDF, the portable charger is not included. I sent a mail to BYD pointing out the discrepancy but they have been silent so far.
Anyway, checked out the net for portable chargers.
The 2 recommended ones on the net with good reviews are
- Strompuls
- Zevpoint.
They both cost around 17-19k( Much less costly compared to the 25k charged by BYD for their portable charger).
Both are specified for upto16 A current. Strompuls also comes with a bag for keeping the charger.

Zevpoint has 2 options available.

The BYD dealership also suggested
- Duosida
- Exicom
Duosida is a chinese brand and is avilable for purchase only through Alibaba and other foreign sites. Plus reviews are not very good, at least whatever I saw. But BYD says its a good product.
Exicom has a portable charger called Spin Free.
However, I messaged them, whatsapped them & mailed them for specifications & price. No reply so far.

Will take a decision on which portable charger to buy once the car comes home( delivery scheduled next week). As I have a 7.2 kw charger at home, charging wont be an issue. Not planning to use the MG portable charger for BYD, as of now.
We have ordered the spare wheel & tyre for a cost of Rs.14,000.

No.They did not give a specific time frame.

Do post a review about the Zevpoint charger once you use it.

Congrats on the new car monster. Hope you are enjoying the drive. It is indeed a wonderful and comfortable drive.
I got the same car in Boulder Grey delivered to me on 16th of September. Similarly the previous batch with full “Build Your Dreams” badge instead of “BYD” and the grey C pillar.

Honestly I have not felt any heat as such, I turn the car on 2-3 minutes before leaving my house and the car is pretty cool by the time I enter. I am usually at 22°C auto mode.
OEM windows (no additions, no sunshade also required as of now). The car is also parked in the sun so it does heat up in the day.

But I must ask I’m facing another issue. The music quality is subpar, to speak generously, not something I’d expect in a car of this level. During the TD it felt pretty good but upon getting it inspected the service team says there are no problems with the speakers. I tried using normal Bluetooth, used Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and I’m just unhappy with the audio quality. I previously owned a Ford Endeavour and a Kia Seltos and the the music quality is not comparable at all.
Mostly the music is flat and doesn’t feel that the subwoofer is working properly (if there is one, I haven’t checked). I have fiddled with the EQ settings of the car and haven’t felt any big change as of now. Checked online and didn’t feel anyone complain much about it.

How do you feel about the sound quality? I haven’t found any other car in the city where I can ask someone to check their speaker system but it seems I’ll probably have to travel back to the dealer (which is far from my house) to check the quality of the speakers once again.

If anybody could help with advising me regarding my options I’d really appreciate that.
Thanks in advance.

Product link here.
Today I received the Zevpoint charger and the quality is nice.

The packaging could have been a bit better or handled a bit better by Xpressbees.

The content was okay though. The case is included. Not sure if they include it in Amazon purchases, as per them this was free if bought from them directly.
BYD Atto 3 Review-img_1502.jpeg

You can toggle between 10A and 16A. The button is touch-based.

16A mode.

BYD Atto 3 Review-img_1505.jpeg

Wire specifications.

Now all I need is Atto 3 to test it, which will take a bit more time

Is a smaller 10A plug provided so that you can fit into smaller sockets? Once you get your Atto 3, let us know the time difference between the two modes.
When I got the car, both 3kw (Duosida) and 7kW( Exicom) chargers were provided free of cost by BYD. I have felt that 3.3kW is not practical for this car, unless it is an emergency. I have used the charger, may be 3-4 times in the last 1.5 years. I use 7 kW charger on a regular basis It takes about 9 hours to charge fully.

It is great that BYD is making a spare wheel available. On my first road trip, after buying the car in Feb 2023, the left rear wheel got punctured. By the time I found a puncture shop, to fix the tyre, the tyre was deformed. - It took around 3-4 weeks for the service to get the a replacement tyre and costed me around Rs. 10k.

You would also need a good quality jack to replace it on the road I bought this one from Janvitha and carry it around during my trips.

Sadly only the 16A plug is given and you will need a converter. But it is only for emergencies and with a proper extension setup it can come in handy in tricky places where charger availability could be a concern.

Also, recently I have come across a video where a heavily damaged Atto 3 works just fine. This gives good confidence in the product.

Re: BYD Atto 3 Review

Hi

So byd has finally got the stock of the dynamic variant of the atto 3 in delhi. They've told me to come make the payment. Although i am still waiting for the rollback of registration charges (which is likely to happen based on recent news articles), i have a question if anyone is aware.
The earlier buyers of the atto 3 got 6 years free maintenance which i think has been withdrawn now. What im told is that only 1 service is free and thereafter it is paid. Anyone has any clue on the service costs? Since that is unknown territory, byd might try to fleece? Or maybe im thinking too much.

Any help would be appreciated.

Btw they have done away with the chinese tyres and the cars are now coming fitted with good year tyres. Have seen it myself.

Re: BYD Atto 3 Review

I enquired in KUN BYD Chennai and understand that they are still awaiting Registration clearance! Deliveries of Dynamic and Premium are not expected in near future. If we book now, delivery timeline is 2 to months. BYD seems ladid back in sales approach. MG will steal customers by then.

Re: BYD Atto 3 Review

with the eMax 7 launching at such a competitive price, especially with ADAS included too (2.4L premium over the base version, but with a jump in battery capacity and ADAS along with a few other things), I am wondering if the Atto 3 will drop in price soon - I mean, you can't launch a 7 seater with more/same features for a price that's similar or lower than a 5 seater (based on the trim).

I understand this could be due to CBU vs. CKD, but BYD will have to think from a consumer's perspective, as in, why would the customer care whether it's a CBU or CKD.

The Atto 3 is a more premium and sporty offering compared to Emax 7. All across markets, Atto 3 is more expensive than Emax 7 which is the M6 in other markets.

The interior quality of Atto 3 is made to feel like a more premium category. The materials , touch & feel is much more premium than the E6 and Emax 7 which has marginal changes over E6 in interior quality.

However one thing which I cannot digest is the price difference between the 50 and 60 kWh variants of the Atto 3. Given the minor difference in features (much less difference than the Emax 7 two variants) max difference should have been 2 lacs and the Premium variant of Atto 3 should be at 27 lacs. So either the Dynamic is underpriced or Premium is significantly over priced.

Anyone already booked in Chennai and have better information on expected delivery?
