Re: Rumour: Tata Nano could return in an electric avatar

Yes, I would buy one to replace our 2016 Nano XTA AMT. As a second car for the city, the Nano has served us very well. It is easy to park, has decent space inside, has a good powerful AC, power steering and has the convenience of automatic, even though an AMT.
The only pain points for me are the brakes and the jerky AMT, which would be solved by the regen braking and gearless motor operations in an electric.

While the Nano is up for replacement, we are finding it difficult to find a replacement which is so good for the city, especially when it comes to the ease of parking.
It has been serving my wife as a daily office commute car, serving the stray dogs and cats in our neighborhood and office as an animal ambulance, and with the rear opening tailgate and folding seat added in the GenX Nano, we have managed to load up the car with small furniture too, while helping our friends shift within the city.

Even if it has a usable range of 120kms, that would suffice for our office commute for a week, and after charging the weekend usage.

Re: Rumour: Tata Nano could return in an electric avatar

A Nano in electric avatar will be a perfect city car be it in any city. A week back I just bought a low mileage pre owned Nano XTA after a long search of 6 months. In Kerala a low mileage Nano will be sold in hours via online platforms. I know a lot of doctors , advocates , business men drive around the same irrespective of status quotient. They just drive the nano just for the convenience and ease of parking.

Bring an electric Nano with a real life mileage of 120 kms, Well Tata , Any day my booking is all yours.

If this gets a 200-300 kilometer range, it could be absorbed by Ola, Uber and many commute startup’s.
We can see cleaner air and better lifestyle.

Re: Rumour: Tata Nano could return in an electric avatar

In line with comments shared by other members, I personally would pick up an EV 'Nano' that keeps the original car's USP of visibility, ease of ingress/egress and interior space over a B-seg hatch. (as a second car / urban commuter).

We have a Nano XTA in our family since 2017, which was a replacement of MT Nano Twist. I have driven a fair share of quadricycles and micro cars, but none offered the above USPs. It is a brilliant car for city commutes and maneuvering.

Back then and now, I have always wished it to be offered with more safety, braking and a bit more pep, even at a premium.

Re: Rumour: Tata Nano could return in an electric avatar

I dont think Tata will ever bring back Nano in any form. Lot of negativity attached to the nano right from the very beginning.
Tiago will remain Tata's entry level car even in EV variant.

Btw. I am a happy owner of Tata Nano XTA and would love to be proven wrong. But realistically dont think there will be any new version of Nano from Tata.

Re: Rumour: Tata Nano could return in an electric avatar

Being a proud owner of Nano, I feel Nano serves best for the city usage.
Nano EV, I dont think it will happen. Current design is outdated.
If they can create another one with similar dimensions, it will be winner.

But, considering airbags requirement from Govt, pricing will be challenging.

Sometime back, I read about this. Nano EV from Jayem motors.
https://www.autocarindia.com/car-new...spotted-408711
It was only for commercial purpose. nothing much heard on that after.

I was checking of converting my Nano to EV.
Tried to reach them. no response on that.
Did anyone tried converting Nano to EV?

This ev Nano will not come or atleast in its discontinued form. I also don't think Nano meets the current safety regulations.

Re: Rumour: Tata Nano could return in an electric avatar

If marketed properly with a realistic range (around 200-250 km) and budget I feel this can be a winner.

Nano originally also lost the game due to marketing otherwise it would have done great as a second car for city usage. Many people in populated cities would appreciate a car with small foot print and possibly automatic. I know being automatic would have put pressure on the budget but many people would be happy with a small car to zip around in our packed cities.

If Tata can focus less on it being cheapest EV and not skip on some practical features (missing boot door anyone) they can have a real winner here.

I wish they launch the diesel Nano instead of this useless china battery toy. The diesel Nano can easily eke out 40 kmpl to a liter, pull better than the petrol one and be priced affordably too.

In this era, you can't expect a diesel car as all sub 2 liter engines are on the verge of extinction. All car makers are all set to pull the plug on such offerings.

Excellent name for this car. Tata executives in authority if you're reading please take note of it.

Re: Rumour: Tata Nano could return in an electric avatar

This was a good coffee break discussion at our office. Nano coming back in a electric avatar, with 150 km real world range, with all basic features, sans touch screen but ability to integrate with phone, in the price range of 7 lakhs on road, makes a perfect city car. Compact, easy on pocket and relatively green. BTW, 'electron' is a great suggestion for the name.

A 2 cyl diesel would shake every bolt out of the Nano. If you want to hear how horrible a 2 cyl diesel would sound like in a passenger car, here you go...

Needless to say, people weren't willing to accept it. And this is ina proper front engine layout with firewall insulation and everything. Imagine having such an engine at the rear with limited insulation, like in the case of the Nano. The racket would be akin to that of an Iris.

In the current scenario, with most people either owning or aspiring to buy "super-4m" compact SUVs, a second EV car for the city would be ideal. I wish there was a way to convert a Nano to Electric, as it would mean better NVH, good power in the city due to instant torque, and of course, a very smooth gearless drive experience. All of this backed by Tata's now tried and tested (somewhat) EV architecture.

Me, I want an electric mini SUV, like a 3 door Jimny EV, with enough ground clearance and good ride that would save me from the pothole infested city "roads" in our country. The Nano with it's tall seating would be ideal, but if they did re-launch it, please put bigger wheels on it, at least 14 inches, with at least 60 or 65 profile rubber.

Re: Rumour: Tata Nano could return in an electric avatar

I will continue waiting for mini-ev car at 5-6 lakh price point and 200-250 km range. I am hoping maruti suzuki might bring one. If tata brings back nano in ev form, I will definitely buy it.
