Volkswagen Golf to return with electric power for ninth generation.

There is a connection with VW and ID, and there is no need to cancel [ID].
We have iconic brand names, Golf and GTI. It would be crazy to let them die and slip away. We will stick with the ID logic but iconic models will carry a name. Might have ID Golf.
The ID 3 has never been a successor to the Golf, it is more a Golf Plus.

The Golf would slot in between the upcoming ID 2 city car and the ID 3 in the future, likely atop the SSP architecture due to replace today's MEB EV platform in the coming years.

The current, eighth-generation VW Golf is due to retire around 2027-2028.

Volkswagen Golf to be reborn as £20,000 EV with hot GTI.

Entry-level Volkswagen ID 2 completely redesigned as compact hatch and tipped to take Golf name.

Volkswagen has gone back to the drawing board for its long-awaited ID 2 urban EV, providing its smallest electric car with a completely new exterior and interior that are set to be previewed on a new concept car in March.




Scheduled to go on sale in 2025 at a targeted base price of €22,500 (£20,135) in today’s money, the compact five-seater is being lined up to get the Golf name.

confirmed that the ID 2 will be the first Volkswagen based on the MEB-Plus platform – an updated version of today’s widely used MEB electric car structure that features new LFP (lithium iron phosphate) prismatic battery cells and charging speeds of up to 200kW, among other developments.

In place of the controversial crossover design previewed by the ID Life concept at the 2020 Munich motor show, the heavily revised ID 2 is set to receive a more conventional hatchback shape developed by a team of designers under the guidance of Volkswagen’s new design boss, Andreas Mindt.

Volkswagen Golf electric, the first Golf manufactured in Spain.

The Volkswagen Golf will be transformed into a 100% electric car. The incombustible German compact will give way to a new generation electric that will wear the seal "Made in Spain". The new electric Golf, popularly known as ID. Golf, rises from the ashes of the Volkswagen ID.2 project, a small SUV that has been discarded.

the new electric Golf will sport a design that will remind the fourth generation of this model. It will have a length of approximately 4.2 meters. And although it will be somewhat smaller than the Volkswagen Golf that we can currently find in dealerships, its cabin will be equally spacious thanks to the huge wheelbase.

The new electric Golf will be in a position to assault European dealerships in 2025.

4WD Volkswagen ID 2 to spawn electric Golf R replacement.

Higher-riding, rugged ID 2 SUV tipped to be joined by potent electric successor to Golf R with over 300bhp.

Dubbed the ID 2X, the rugged variant would be similar to Volkswagen's previous Alltrack models. But with four-wheel-drive on hold for now, the firm has yet to receive a definitive green light for production.

Launching a taller and more rugged version of the ID 2 would allow Volkswagen to essentially mirror its current entry-level offering, comprising the Volkswagen Polo and technically identical Volkswagen T-Cross.

Next VW Golf Mk9 will be all-electric and will be VW’s first to be based on the SSP platform.

Often seen as the electric alternative to the Golf, the ID.3 is likely to be replaced by the Mk9 Golf, and will start the MEB electric platform’s slow phase out. Its replacement, VW’s second-generation of electric-only vehicle platform, SSP, could make the next Golf one of the most technologically-advanced mass market hatchbacks on sale.

Delayed by software issues, the SSP platform is expected to launch on more premium Audi and Porsche vehicles.

New Volkswagen Golf GTI will be launched in 2026 and electric.

Volkswagen's design chief announces the arrival of the first electric Golf GTI in 2026.

The Golf GTI was first unveiled at the 1975 Frankfurt Motor Show with a production run of 5000 units. To date, we have sold more than 2.8 million. In 2026, we will introduce an electric version of this iconic model.
