Ford Mustang Mach-E owners can now make their EVs sound like a GT500

Aftermarket exhaust brand, Borla has unveiled its "Active Performance Sound" system, which produces "exhaust noises" for EVs. The company showcased their latest invention on a Ford Mustang Mach-E at SEMA.

According to reports, the new "exhaust noises" were recorded using the actual performance car they replicate. Borla is said to have placed multiple microphones to capture all the characteristic sounds of the actual car under various parameters - idling, redlining, cruising and more. These audio profiles are then synced with the EVs internal computer, allowing the Borla system to replicate the ICE soundtrack, perfectly matching the status of the EV motor.

Reports also state that the system pairs with an app on the user's smartphone, which allows them to change the ICE soundtrack as per their liking. For SEMA, Borla showcased a Ford Mustang Mach-E sounding like a GT500. However, owners can also change it to make their EVs sound like a Dodge Hellcat, an AMG or maybe even an F1 car.

Borla states that their new exhaust system for EVs should be available by year-end. The system will initially be available for Mach-E owners, although Borla is planning a similar system for the F-150 Lightning, before offering it on other EV models in the future. Prices for the new system from Borla are yet to be announced.

Meanwhile ICE cars @EV's . "Things you need to do, to replicate 1% of my power". Jokes aside, won't there be a disconnect from the drivers standpoint (All sound but none of that will be felt because of very low NVH of EV's).

This reminds me of Apple's seukomorphism to make digital controls look like physical ones on computer screens.

The Golf GTE hybrid has something similar built in. When accelerating on both motors you hear the faint sound of a V8 through the speakers inside the car. You dont hear anything outside.
I have seen a Tesla and a Hyundai Ionic 5 with loud engine noises. I was overtaken by an Ionic 5 once and car just screamed by. The Tesla was running on idle and sounded like any V8 engine.
