I hope they don't keep Indian customers waiting for months for delivery, while making a killing in other RHD markets with thicker profits.

Well that’s good news, that an Indian automobile company is demonstrating a global EV ambition. Even though a baby step vs the big global EV companies, this is commendable.

I hope this happens and Tata goes international. Hopefully the R&D, product development, manufacturing, quality control, features and after sales operations are on par with global standards and percolate to the Indian products and operations as well.

Good to see this. Tata never bothered to launch any car in overseas after Vista and Aria. Harrier, Nexon, Altroz seems global products and i am curious that why Tata is not launching them overseas despite showcasing them in international auto shows. This spotting made me happy.

I think, Tata will make use of the Ford's Sanand plant for making EV by entering the international market. This way, it is possible for the Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEML) to become a bigger business entity than the Tata motors passenger business (which makes the ICE cars).

Re: Tata Nexon EV Max spotted testing in New Zealand

The problem is that other manufacturers like BYD and MG have far better products at similar prices. BYD is selling the far superior Atto 3 in Australia and NZ for around 25 lakhs. Tata is selling the Max at around 21 lakhs in India itself. With the extra costs associated with exports, customs duty and providing 6 airbags as well as ADAS features, it is unlikely to be less than the Atto 3 price. There is absolutely no comparison between the two. Tata would have to sell it at 15 lakhs for anyone to consider it over BYD or MG.

But do these Chinese companies have to pay hefty taxes in Australia and NZ like in India?

Nexon already has 5 star rating and if Tata can provide and maintain the quality standards set by other competing manufacturers, it could be a big hit. Being a new product it also has to be priced aggressively.

The tax structure is different. Cost for production may not be that high. So the price at foreign market may not be high.

They must have done their basics before attempting to launch.

No. Australia has a 5% tax on EV imports and in any case, they have a free trade agreement with China under which there is no duty at all for vehicles imported from China.

Re: Tata Nexon EV Max spotted testing in New Zealand

The need of the hour now is to setup a battery manufacturing unit and possibly secure long term fixed rate lithium source from Latin America. Considering our EAM Dr. Jaishankar was there recently, and there were talks about Government to Government deals for military helicopters with Argentina, which can be leveraged for securing aforementioned contracts. Lets hope for the best.
