On World EV Day, Tata Motors announces expansion of its portfolio to make EVs more accessible in India.

Tata Motors announces the introduction of Tiago EV. TPEM aims to ride the green wave and support the government’s vision to have 30% electric vehicle penetration by 2030.

Announcing its plans on World EV Day, Mr. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. said,

“World EV Day is indeed a special day for us, as we look back and reflect on our journey so far. We are proud to lead the EV market in India, with a lion’s share of 88%. As early entrants, we have shaped the market and seen it grow with Nexon EV and Tigor EV.

We have over 40,000 Tata EVs plying on road and we are grateful to the early adopters who have shown faith in the brand. Leveraging group synergies, we have also established Tata UniEVerse, a one of its kind EV ecosystem, which is further propelling the EV adoption.

“Earlier this year, we had unveiled our 3 phased approach towards building a comprehensive EV portfolio.

As we accelerate our future journey, we are committed to launch 10 EVs in different product segments, body styles and affordability levels.

Today, is a momentous occasion for us, as we announce the expansion of our EV portfolio further with a new mainstream intervention from the stable of Tata Motors, the Tiago EV.

Vow ! Tiago EV will be a game changer. Tigor never had the appeal among the masses. But Tiago is such a looker and is very popular. An EV version will be great city car. Hopefully it will come at a price point less than 10L on road for at least the base variant.

This will be awesome! Perfect for those seeking a small, safe, feature loaded, good looking city runabout car. But please Tata, don't put that hideous oversized sticker on the side screaming 'EV'!

Currently, the only EV you can buy below 10L is Mahindra E20+. If Tata can manage to get Tiago EV below 10L OTR, it will be a sure shot winner. Eagerly waiting for it.

Of Late "SmartBlu Cabs" and The the TIGOR EV are a very common sight in NCR. I have started using their services more than OLA/UBER. Recently on my way back from the Airport I had a conversation with a SmartBlu Cab driver.

I inquired about his experience driving an EV Cab. He told he gets around 180 Kms on a full charge (and lets keep in mind that the Tigor EV Cab version has a lower range). He told me that for Intra City Commuting purpose one should definitely for the Tigor EV.

The TIAGO EV would just be perfect for the City Commute. Just Hoping it is priced below 10 Lakhs.

Excellent news.
Our Tiago D will be completing 5 Years in Jan. So, another 2 years we will look to replace it and Tiago EV will be perfect replacement. I hope Tata atleast give a range of 180- 200 kms.

Must say, the think tank at Tata has really learnt to judge the pulse of the market! 'Forever young' or otherwise, they seem to be making all the right choices as per the market wishes, even though those may not make a lot of sense to the enthusiast community.
They choose to fight latest 'unveil' by M and M EV, and how- they almost held this Ace up their sleeve until 4OO images came out! Tiago is one of their most reliable brands, and a market blue-eyed-boy. Considering EVs target city users anyway, this is sheer brilliance, if the execution is as good as tigor EV.Kudos!

I was initially swamped by range anxiety. However after ruminating a bit, EVs for even 5-6 hours runs are still impractical, there will be a minimum 1 hour top required. And long runs actually reduce the distance to top-up

For me the potential of an ev is max for city runabouts, where fuel efficienty is the lowest. So a small, cheaper EV, with a 150-200k range (4-5 days) with a slow and low overnight charger probably suits me the best and a well speced Taigo EV fits the bill perfectly. looking fwd to it.

Tiago EV will certainly accelerate the adoption of EV in India. With its mass market appeal many thing go in favor of Tiago EV:

1. Can proof itself as a perfect beater car - low maintenance, high utility, easy on pocket
2. Good for small commute within city, i.e. shopping, wife/parents office commuting
3. Looker, well accepted, sorted vehicle, spacious
4. Range of 200-250 is sufficient if that helps in checking the cost
5. Nice city performance + Auto

BUT we certainly need an additional Vehicle to perform larger duties (Highway, long distances explorations etc.)

Wonderful. The Tiago EV will be a good one for office commute. I hope the range is somewhere between 150 & 200kms. The price point will determine if I will really be interested. Are they going to launch it this month ? I thought the website image showed September 22

Tata is milking the X0/X1 platform to the max. Now they have three products(Tigor EV, Nexon EV and Tiago EV) from it. Very good move. Price is one of the major factor that is keeping the middle class away from EVs. If Tata can manage to price it between 8-10L on the road and 150KM - 200KM range then it will be runaway hit.

Good move from TATA, if priced under 10L this will be a perfect replacement for my Nano.
My needs are purely for city run about and office commute.

Can book car of choice from ZOOMCAR / MYLES or can hire Outstation TAXI'S for Long Trips.

BTW how many long trips do an average joe usually take in a year??
