Tesla delivered a record number of electric vehicles in the fourth quarter, beating market estimates and meeting its 2023 target, but lost its spot as the top EV maker to China's BYD.

Tesla delivered 494,989 EVs in the October-to-December period, falling short of the 526,409 vehicles that Warren Buffett-backed BYD handed over - mostly in China - suggesting that car buyers were looking for cheaper models in a high-interest-rate economy.

Wonder what will happen to his company in China ? He has big investments and looking at the market for high numbers. Same with Europe who have put some barriers already.

IMHO this is not an expression of insecurity for Tesla, rather it's a warning for all those legacy manufacturers whom are lobbying at different levels standing against any reforms without anything meaningful to offer.

Tesla Model Y continues to be the world best selling 4W in 2023 too.


VW just lost its decade long top selling rank in the Chinese market.
BYD & SAIC doing very well in the European market, an ever growing threat to VW, Reno, stellantis and ignorants like Toyota, now expanding well in Asian markets too like Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines and Singapore.

US market is currently devoid of any Chinese brands selling directly safeguarding the volumes of Toyota and Honda to a certain extend as they are the most vulnerable to these Chinese brands invasions.

Nothing will happen to his company, offcourse he has to build another set of Gigafactories quickly, and a small car.

That warning is for Toyota, Stellantis, Renault, GM, Ford, Honda etc..
