BYD to enter the mainstream EV market in India this festive season with an electric SUV.

In 2022 BYD will be assembling vehicles at its factory in Sriperumbudur on the outskirts of Chennai. Byd india plans to sell 1000 E6 MPVs in 2022, with the addition of SUV Atto3.

BYD plans to expand output in the country to 10000 units per annum by the end of the year. The roadmap of selling 10000 Evs in 2 yrs and eventual plans of setting up a local manufacturing base in India.

Byd India will be participating in Auto Expo Delhi in 2023. BYD will show its Born EV - E-3 platform and Blade Battery Technology that delivers a reliable range of 450-500 kms per charge.

Byd Atto 3 is expected to be priced around Rs 25 lakh and will have a range of over 450-500 kms on a single charge.

Looking at the specs, looks, dimensions, features, range and if the pricing is anywhere between 30-35L (as mentioned in the news), this is going to be a Tsunami hit.
Also, some other factors in favour of BYD are reliability, battery technology, quality, etc.

Factors to note and to be addressed are its sales & service network, and ASS experience.

It's high time for our domestic and mass market brands to pull up their socks and keep up with the pace.

BYD has come a long, long way in battery technology.
A friend of mine who works with one notable US EV manufacturer told me, that in their internal battery pack benchmarking exercises, BYD's battery pack with their patented "blade" technology topped most benchmarking parameters.

BYD has quite a large outfit at Sriperumbudur. They manufacture quite a few things including battery packs for an electric bus OEM.

With the range of vehicles they have, if BYD can set in place a good after sales service network they can be a serious competitor to established players.

Doubt there would be any takers if launched directly in that price band. No one other than the commercial sector has even heard of the brand here + very limited sales and service network. Pricing it on par with the MG zs EV would be the only way to get people even remotely interested.

I doubt it. They need to go head on against the ZS EV; establish a foothold in the market, get people into showrooms first, if they want to become a volume player.
By pricing it in the 30-35L price range, they'll end up becoming a fringe player like Citroen was with the C5. Citroen at least had a desirable-ish brand going for them.

Have they started assembly of the Atto 3 locally already if they're planning on launching this upcoming festive season (it's not that far away after all)? Or will customer deliveries only be from early 2023 onwards?

25L ex showroom feels incredibly ambitious pricing if they can achieve it.

Interesting interior design. I'm super curious about how exactly those airvents work - they look like a safety razor from afar.

I'd be curious to know just how much uptake they've had from commercial customers for their electric E6 MPV.

They should learn branding / marketing for India from the other Chinese companies (Oppo, Vivi, Xiaomi). BYD being one of the largest EV player and with a decent offering planned in India has literally no presence, no awareness, no reach

In the Auto sector, MG & KIA did a great job is positioning themselves in a short span of time. I have not doubt about the products but the way they are looking at distribution is mediocre.

This will surely set the cat amongst the pigeons ! Especially hit will be the mid-premium EV makers e.g. Kia, Hyundai etc. But with constrained supply and rising demand, maybe not.

This will be perfect city car with the occasional Mumbai-Pune (for Mumbaikars), Bangalore-Mysore, Bangalore- Mangalore trips that many city folks do. Commute to office every day and travel back to village/ family homes over the weekends.

BYD Atto 3 is up for assaulting electric compact SUVs in Europe.

BYD Atto 3, a very interesting Chinese electric C-SUV:

the climate controls are located in roulette wheels next to the ventilation nozzles themselves or the touch screen of the multimedia system, which can be configured vertically or horizontally at the touch of a button. A series of gadgets that will be standard, because those of BYD do not like the options with extra price, including in the list of series equipment such as the heat pump, the level 2 driving assistants or the panoramic roof.

The Atto 3 has an interior for five passengers who will travel comfortably, with plenty of space, thanks to a specific platform for electric cars, in which the battery is part of the architecture, so it increases the rigidity values. The "e-Platform 3.0" offers different forms of propulsion, but in the case of the Atto 3 it is a front-wheel drive, with the electric motor installed on this axle, with a power of 150 kW or 204 hp, and with which it can reach 100 km / h in just 7.3 seconds.

But what makes the BYD Atto 3 very special in the C-segment is its advanced lithium iron phosphate battery. Even among the Premium, because the structure of its "Blade" battery does not have the usual LFP cells, but these are arranged in large sheets adding a structure of multiple layers. With a lower weight, it will offer a gross capacity of 60 kWh, achieving a maximum range of 440 kilometers. BYD will communicate the prices, equipment and full technical specifications at its debut at the Paris Motor Show, to be held in mid-October.

Meanwhile BYD India has opened its first electric car dealership in Ernakulam; targets growing demand for its e6 MPV, priced at Rs 29,15 lakh, in Kerala.
BYD India has sold a total of 153 EVs in the April-July 2022 period. The company also markets pure electric buses.

Our neighbour, who used to drive a Pajero, now switched to BYD MPV, the previous car used to make so much noise, and it's quite different to the hum sound of this car. I am pretty sure this would be an hit considering that E6 is sold only to business and I have seen few on road in Bengaluru already.

The BYD E6 is available for the general public too not just commercial buyers.
