Looks stunning actually. Especially the side profile. Hoping they dont disappoint us with the pricing.

That said, even the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 are essentially longer hatchbacks, hence I’m pretty sure even though they’re some of the best electric cars out there, they’re not going to sell in big numbers again for the same reason: price vs perception disparity.

On the other hand, MG ZS EV and BYD Atto 3 have (compact) SUV proportions and hence the price seems justified, hence good sales.
I'd respectfully disagree. Tata EVs, which are just ICE cars modified, selling like hotcakes proves that it's not perception which is selling. I think it's more about VFM which has always been the case for large volume sales in India. Kona, unfortunately, did not appear to be VFM when compared to the tata EVs or the MG ZS, or even the ICE omes in similar price band.

re: BYD Atto 3 electric SUV to be launched this festive season. EDIT: Priced at Rs. 34 lakh

Range anxiety still not alleviated.
WLTP 420 km
ARAI 520 km

With my diesel XUV500, I was a hyper miler, squeezing out more on the highway than the 18 kmpl that the electronics were calibrated to compute & display. This EV is a new country. What speed is the vehicle driven at for standardised testing? If I have to head for the hills (though still driving conservatively), how much of a hit can I expect? My longest scheduled run is 390 km. which involves a total climb of 1500 metres. Yes, no or maybe?

re: BYD Atto 3 electric SUV to be launched this festive season. EDIT: Priced at Rs. 34 lakh

Visited the PPS Byd at Yelahanka today to have a look at the car. The car looks much better in person as do the interiors. It is put together well and the doors closed with a satisfying thud. According to the SA, the display is a direct import from Australia and not locally assembled one.
Test drives are expected to start by month end as they are still working out the RTO formalities. SA was absolutely confident that the price will be in 32-33L range and will not cross 33L on road.
For folks in Bangalore, PPS plans to open more showroom/service center in Mahadevpura, Old Airport Road area.

Good news but absolutely needs one in South Bangalore too. Mahadevpura is also too far from south bangalore.

For most people 390km of driving involves atleast one break, sometimes even two, on ICE cars. You need to change your ICE mindset, see that any fast chargers can help you on the route for top up while having a break.

WLTP range can be achieved on normal highways, on hills may be a 30mins fast charging break is all that required. Compared to your XUV500 this car or any EV will be real thrill to drive, very fast overtakes, regen braking, you will probably reach your destination faster.

re: BYD Atto 3 electric SUV to be launched this festive season. EDIT: Priced at Rs. 34 lakh

Though BYD Atto is a 5 star Euro NCAP car, the five-star score has not yet been applied in Australia pending a review into the federal approval for the BYD Atto 3 by the regulator.

Quote:
The Australian distributor for the BYD Atto 3 electric car has issued a bulletin to owners advising them not to install a child restraint in the middle back seat, as enquiries continue about a possible compliance breach that could spark a recall and a 'stop sale' notice.
Quote:
The email to BYD customers says: "BYD Australia advises BYD Atto 3 owners and users that they should not use the rear centre seat to attach any child seat.
BYD Australia is in the process of resolving this issue and will shortly provide you with a further update.
The email then asks BYD customers to "please click below to acknowledge that you have read and understand".

Quote:
the BYD Atto 3 currently lacks an accessible top tether child restraint anchor point in the centre position in the back seat, a long-standing requirement for five-seat passenger-vehicle compliance in Australia.

The BYD Atto 3 does come with two ISOFIX child seat latches (with corresponding top tether mounts) in each outboard rear seating position.

The BYD Atto 3 is missing an accessible top tether for the middle seat, which is deemed the safest position in a car for a child because it is away from the doors in a side impact crash.

Drive understands there may be provision for a top tether behind the seat-back fabric (see above).

BYD cars in Australia said:

Quote:
Our client is working co-operatively with ANCAP to finalise a rating. That process is ongoing. In this respect, our client will be releasing a press release within the next 24 hours concerning the process it is undertaking to obtain a five-star rating for the Australian-specific models of the BYD Atto 3.

re: BYD Atto 3 electric SUV to be launched this festive season. EDIT: Priced at Rs. 34 lakh

Checked out the Atto 3 today. Impressed with the looks, finish and overall feel of the vehicle. Excellent for a self-drive vehicle. Interiors are rather intimate though but somewhat alleviated by the pano sunroof.

Bookings have commenced with 50K but 25K cancellation fee caveat. Test drives should start month-end and deliveries in Jan 2023. Currently, only PPS BYD is operational on the KIAL Expressway but Mahadevapura expected to open soon. Ultimate plan is to have 5 integrated setups in BLR.

Some pictures:
EDIT: adding a few colour choice pictures (shared by the SA), and the brochure as well.

Do the cars to be sold in India which are locally assembled also have similar build and quality? Or any third world specific watering down?

Given that these will come via CKD route, I guess it should have similar build quality. Experts on the forum can perhaps give a more informed answer.

I will probably pick it up simply for the interior, if I was in the market for an EV right now.

Wonderful !!! (based on the pictures)

Hope to see competition catching up in the interior department soon.

This showcases low confidence in India market. Toyota are charging zero cancellation and Mahindra is charging 10% as cancellation fees. 50% deduction in booking amount shows that company is playing safe and looking only for "very" serious buyers.

I was give to understand that the cancellation fee will be waived for genuine circumstances.

re: BYD Atto 3 electric SUV to be launched this festive season. EDIT: Priced at Rs. 34 lakh

Here are my issues:

1. Where is all the drive info data stored? China? Will they have complete access to our routes etc. of the Indian Cities with a possibility of even videos through the cameras on board. Vehicles like this shouldn't be allowed around defense and sensitive area just like China banned all Tesla's in govt due to the recording function.
2. Longevity of the product?
3 Service Support for the product?
4. Where is the spare wheel?
5. GNCAP rating?
