Audi A3 to become an electric-only model from 2027; Offer 700 km range & standard RWD According to media reports, Audi's next-gen A3 will be offered exclusively with an all-electric powertrain. Both hatchback and sedan versions of the next-gen Audi A3 will abandon petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains. The new electric-only Audi A3 model lineup is scheduled to arrive in international markets by 2027.
The upcoming all-electric Audi A3 will make use of the Volkswagen Group's brand new skateboard-style Scalable Systems Platform. This new electric architecture is said to make its debut on the upcoming ID.4 sedan. The new platform will use a 'unified cell format', offering the new-gen A3 a range of up to 700 km on a single charge. It also allows for faster charging times, which will help the electric A3 add 129 km of range in just 10 minutes.
Reports suggest that the 2027 Audi A3 will, for the first time, come standard with rear-wheel drive. However, the performance versions will get dual-electric motors and a four-wheel drive configuration.
The upcoming electric Audi A3 will continue to be offered in both five-door hatchback and four-door sedan body styles. Both versions will see an incremental rise in dimensions, while also getting shorter overhangs, shorter bonnet lines, a larger cabin and an increased wheelbase.
Audi will also offer S3 and RS3 versions, which will become the entry point for the brand's electrified performance range.
