Volkswagen Tiguan electric in the works; Spied testing ahead of 2024 unveil

According to a media report, Volkswagen could be working on introducing an electric powertrain on the next-generation Tiguan SUV.

A test mule with a modified current-gen VW Tiguan body has been spotted undergoing testing. The spy images showcase the test mule featuring a closed-off front grille, a larger air intake on the front bumper and beefy side sills. Also, the lack of a visible tailpipe further indicates that the test mule could be packing a battery-electric powertrain.

While details are still very scarce, the next-gen Volkswagen Tiguan could continue using the MQB platform. This allows VW to offer the SUV with mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully-electric powertrain options. Reports suggest that the next-gen Tiguan is still in the early stages of development, with camouflaged models expected to arrive only next year. These camouflaged models will offer the first glimpse of the design changes on the next-gen SUV.

Reports also suggest that Volkswagen could unveil the next-gen Tiguan sometime in 2024 before being introduced as a 2025 model. Volkswagen is also expected to continue offering the Tiguan in both 5 and 7-seater (Tiguan AllSpace) configurations.

I don't know why the car is sagging so much at the rear. Is it because of the extra weight of the battery?

Interesting to see Braunschweig plates on a Tiguan test vehicle. The battery, axles and other components for VW Germany's electric cars are manufactured in Braunschweig. They started with large fanfare in 2019 with their "e-mobility" initiative which included concepts like the iDs and the recently introduced all electric Multivan replacement.

I'll be interested to see the packaging of this electric Tiguan. Also, what's with the sagging suspension?

Off-topic: Why do so many cars have negative rear camber (compared to the front)? Is it to prioritise the contact patch at the rear to avoid oversteer as much as possible?
