Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV teased; Global unveil expected in the coming months

Hyundai has released the first teaser of its upcoming Ioniq 6 EV for the global market. The short teaser video, though, doesn't reveal any details of the upcoming EV, apart from a silhouette inspiration and a tagline which reads "Electrified Streamliner".

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV was previewed by the brand's Prophecy Concept, with the final model expected to carry forward many of the design elements into production. The final production-spec Hyundai Ioniq 6 will use the brand's e-GMP platform, which also underpins the Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6.

The electric sedan is expected to be powered by a 77.4 kWh battery pack with dual motors (one on each axle). The electric powertrain on the Ioniq 6 is expected to offer around 300 BHP. Hyundai is also expected to introduce a N Performance version of the Ioniq 6, which will put out around 576 BHP, similar to Kia's EV6 GT version.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is expected to have its global debut sometime in the coming months.

Looks great. Some resemblance to the Porsche Taycan. Lately, Hyundai is kind of taking inspirations from other brands .e.g- the 4th gen Hyundai Tucson has similar cuts on sides like the Lamborghini Urus.

Polarizing design. Bold move by Hyundai.

The exterior reminds me of different cars (GT86, Taycan) from different angles. I initially felt that Hyundai dropped the ball on this one. Nevertheless its like nothing else on the road, especially at Hyundai's target price point.

Simon Loasby, Hyundai's Head of styling explains the design elements in the below video. Love his nod to Knight Rider. It was interesting to learn from the video that Simon's dad was part of the team that designed the DeLorean. Afterall the Ioniq 5 is a modern take on the DeLorean.

Not so sure about that design. Looks like they took aim at the Mercedes EQ sedans and ended up with the Citroen DS from the 60s.

You're actually wrong and right at the same time. They actually didn't aim for the EQ Sedans at all. In fact, DS and similar cars are what they were going for.

Hyundai calls this a streamliner and not a sedan. It's taken inspiration from classic cars from the 1930s-40s.
