Mahindra & Skoda VW poised for 50:50 EV joint venture: Focus on battery-powered SUV's.

Mahindra & Mahindra and Skoda Auto Volkswagen India are finalizing a 50:50 joint venture to share costs, technology, and vehicle platforms, focusing on electric SUVs for both Indian and international markets. The partnership will use facilities in Chakan, Pune, for production.

An announcement is expected by year-end. The JV is a significant step for both companies amidst increasing government push for electric vehicles and stricter carbon emission regulations.

The JV will use SAVWIPL and Mahindra plants in Chakan near Pune to productionize models.

Ford and Ssangyong are laughing at the corner.

I hope this JV is a successful one for both the companies *fingers crossed*.

Re: Mahindra and Volkswagen to collaborate on Electric Vehicle Platform

This news just might be what SAVWIPL and Mahindra need right now!

One thing to note is even though the JV is going to focus on BEVs, it also includes future Fossil Fuel models!
Therefore, this JV might help VW and Skoda to increase homologation, reduce cost on sourcing, and therefore improve product quality.

Remember that Mahindra has already gone on record to say that they are open to hybrids, if demand is present. Therefore to reduce costs and development time, this JV might enable Mahindra to just use VWs Hybrid tech in their future models, in addition to MEB Components for their EVs.

Whether BEVs or Hybrids, if this JV is finalised, and it sustains, then there are surely exciting times ahead for everyone involved, Skoda, VW, Mahindra, and ofcourse, us consumers!!

Ohh please, don't forget Renault! They deserve a special mention!

Future Kodiaqs getting a 2L mStallion T-GDi and XUV700s getting a 2L TSI would be amazing!
Makes me suspicious whether the MQB-A0-IN models would gain access to mHawk Mahindra Diesels or not? Kylaq Diesel 6TC anyone?

Re: Mahindra and Volkswagen to collaborate on Electric Vehicle Platform

I think Skoda and VWs exit is now on the cards as Mahindra and JVs don't go hand in hand as seen in previous instances. The joint venturing company eventually die a slow and painful death.

Please note that Mahindra is dealing VW and unlike its earlier ventures is not as easy as it looks.

Existing products in VW-Skoda are likely exempted from this partnership.

This match is between equally placed companies in terms of ego and whose history doesn't gel well in partnerships!

Terrible decision by Volkswagen, they will get nothing out of this while Mahindra stands to gain. There's still time, Volkswagen should call it off.

Hard to believe that companies who boast of 100 years of manufacturing legacy banking on another player for survival. Not a good move at all.

C'mon. Let us be selfish.

Let Mahindra learn a thing or two, like it usually does from its exes.

VW is too big to lose anything in this process. It could maybe learn something from Mahindra regarding making the vehicles durable for Indian conditions, starting with the AC.

Re: Mahindra and Volkswagen to collaborate on Electric Vehicle Platform

What a pointless partnership this is. I dont understand what the two companies will gain out of this. VW is no genius in EV's, if that was what Mahindra was looking for them they should've partnered with some chinese giant instead. Mahindra has good engines, don't know why they would want to take assistance from VW. I mean, those were two assumptions from my side as to what the companies might work on together in the future.

I would not be surprised if VW exits in the future. Apart from the fact that every company that partnered with Mahindra sunk without a trace, I guess it is game over for VW if this partnership does not work? I mean I read somewhere about how their 2.0 project was not giving enough profits and they were looking for local partners. So if this does not work, then what option does VW have except for leaving? I see so much similarity to Ford's scene that happened in 2021.

Good luck to both, but this feels very unnecessary and pointless.

Re: Mahindra and Volkswagen to collaborate on Electric Vehicle Platform

Remembering the promises of the Mahindra-Ford partnership a few years ago at this point. When the partnership is mutually beneficial, it is the consumers who ultimately win. Volkswagen has good BEV tech and Mahindra has the local market knowledge. Good potential to steam ahead of TATA here.

Re: Mahindra and Volkswagen to collaborate on Electric Vehicle Platform

Looks like some desperation from Volkswagen here.

They are steadily loosing ground in China which is their largest market outside the EU.

They need a large upcoming market like India for a volume play.

Not sure they have the right horse for the game.

Mahindra may walk away as friends with benefits.

Consumers have some fun times ahead.
