Re: Tata Nexon EV Max Review

Hey guys I had kept my Ev max jet for 2nd service and when I asked about the software update to increase range to 453km I was told its not available.
Tata had said that February 15th onwards Ev max can be updated to increase range to 453km. Has anyone got the update installed.
One of the mrf wanderer street tyres of my Ev max developed a side wall crack any idea if it will covered under warranty by mrf. Car is 6 months old

Even I too am waiting for the call. I called up the Service Advisor at service centre, and he said that we'll get a notification when our car is eligible for the software update.

To be fair to Tata, in this age of globalisation it does not make sense for any product to be 100% local. What we have to look at is, how much of the important sub-systems are local. If we look at the Tata EVs, then

1) The body and chassis common with ICE, this is a key component and is the main reason new EV entrants struggle (ref. Ola scooter front fork). I think this is largely local.
2) Battery cells, imported, but recently Tata Chemicals have started making them? Production Linked Incentives was reported to be one of the reasons for the recent price cuts.
3) Battery pack assembly - local and BMS I think at least software is local/locally tuned.
4) Motor and power electronics (the image you have posted), imported
5) Software - again large part is local

There is enough local value add and it is not unreasonable to put the "Vocal 4 local" branding on this.

Brochure of Nexon Ev Max Dark. Bigger infotainments screen, better camera, a new EV theme and also looks like improved speakers / music system. Also a new 4th level in regen?

That's a typo, 4 levels of Regen -> 0/1/2/3. the 4 at the end is definitely a typo, there is no improvement on the car at all, it's just an upgrade of infotainment system and paint.

Re: Tata Nexon EV Max Review

Hi All,

Having got the delivery of my car in the first week of April i have covered around 660KM with 100% AC and have charged the car 3 times with a home slow charger (3.3 kw and 7.2kw); overall im very happy with the car, but have a few questions around the overall range:

1: In all the 3 slow charging cycles i have seen that the DTE shown is approx 275/285 km in CITY mode and around 285/300 km when i change to ECO mode. Is this normal? I have seen couple of youtube videos where i can see the DTE with full charge to be around 330 KM etc.

2: I have changed my driving style and im getting myself trained to avoid sudden acceleration/braking; in a recent to-and-fro trip to Mysore i used cruise control set at 80km/hr for almost 85% of the journey and i think im getting a usable range of around 260KM or so in ECO mode. I feel the overall range is less for me, not sure if this has anything to do with my overall driving style?

3: Does the range increase after the 1st service? or can i ask the service advisor to check on the same (Not sure if they can do something about it though)?

4: In all the 3 charge cycles i have reset my tripmeter (Trip A). After the first charge cycle i saw my consumption was around 121 wh/km, but during the second charge cycle it is around 145 wh/km and its not getting down no matter how sedate i drive. Is there a way i can get it down b/w 121 to 134 wh/km (The SA at key motors had told me to keep it in b/w 121 wh/km to 135 wh/km). Can some info be shared on the same?

5: Please share any tips/advices on improving the range which has worked for you guys?

Lastly sorry for bombing the post with so many questions

Thanks!

Re: Tata Nexon EV Max Review

1. DTE is an estimate based on the wh/km consumption for the last few kms. Don't go by this number.
2. The range is heavily dependent on the terrain, speed and acceleration pattern, On highways, try using cruise control with low level or no regen level to maximise the efficiency.
3. Range does not increase after service, it is dependent on your driving style, terrain (altitude) and speed.
4. For max 120 to 135wh/km seems reasonable. I am using you are using AC as well here.
5. Don't be so concerned about Range, there are plenty of fast chargers in south, enjoy the car as it is.

Give it some time . BMS would take its time to calibrate the driving pattern. DTE is just an indication. I have got 490+ DTE many times on 100% charging . Check the KMs you get per %. ideally it should be between 3.5 to 4 kms if you are driving alone with AC. Again the terrain, speed and traffic condition matters.

The approx kms is just an estimate. Take them with a pinch of salt as they will keep changing depending upon the varied driving methods, also the terrain we drive in and the driving modes we apply. I stay in Bajara Hills Hyderabad that is on top of a hill and my job is in Jubilee hills. So I have lot of climbing and descending for which I typically get a mileage of 230-250. Mine is a Nexon EV MAX.

In simpler term always calculate as 3 kms for every percent of battery left assuming that you get a range of 300kms per 100% charge. That way you will never be left surprised while planning distances.

When it comes to me i set a target to cover 30 kms every 10% for an effective range of 300kms. I change my driving style according to this target, try and see if it helps you. May be you can set a different target.

Re: Tata Nexon EV Max Review

I faced HV Critical alert thrice in last month Every time I took battery down to 16-17% it showed up. To make things worse happened twice in middle of road and my driver got stuck both times. The tips on Nexon EV WhatsApp group of locking the car walking away for 2 mins then unlocking helped move it around a bit to a safe place.

To make things worse every time I got the warning, the car refused to charge. As soon as I plugged in the charger the HV alert came again and charging stopped. The first time it happened I left my car overnight, tried next morning and charging started. Second time I tried after an hour, removed negative battery terminal for 10 mins and charging started. The third time charging started automatically after 1 hour without having to do anything.

Finally sent my car today to service centre at around 35% SOC. They drove it around and this time the error came up at 24% itself, left it for a while went away, then again popped up at 18%. They are finally saying a specialist will come to check the battery tomorrow and as far as they can check some cells / battery is faulty and needs to be replaced. The car has barely done 6k kms in 10 months of my ownership.. Hoping to get it back soon as it's my daily driver and they have not yet confirmed if they can provide a backup car for the time it will take them to fix the car.

Push them for a courtesy car as this is clearly warranty issue. And if they are not able to provide ask them to reimburse for cab bills
