re: 2022 MG ZS EV Facelift with bigger battery revealed in Europe

I liked the pre-facelift look which helped it to gel with other ICE cars on the road and was waiting for the facelifted ZS EV to take over Astor's striking design. Happy that they brought in Astor's design elements and adopted the standard EV front fascia(should look better in black) to differentiate both models.

Looks like they added some nice features too like a digital instrument cluster and a 360-degree camera. Last but not least the updated headlamp unit was an essential job for the facelift as the existing halogen projectors were not up to the mark.

re: 2022 MG ZS EV Facelift with bigger battery revealed in Europe

Wasn’t there a rumour about a smaller battery pack for MG ZS EV? Is that going to be an india exclusive?

It appears that the facelifted version has bigger batteries across the board. Both are of course, much more costly than existing model, but again, they should bring the long range version to India next year too. Kona just comes in the 40kWh version, not the 64kWh.

Also due for facelift in India since the 2022 model is already revealed. A higher range variant would surely inspire confidence in EVs given they’re close to being single car garage capable for a lot of Indians.

Would have looked way better with a conventional grille upfront. I too was expecting something on the lines of the Astor. I can't fathom why car brands delete front grilles on EVs. Even If it brings better aerodynamics, a little more efficiency should never trump design and looks.

I don't know why but all these EV's, why do they have to cover the grill with a ugly bumper piece.

Atleast give it a fake grill for aesthetics.

To reduce the drag coefficient. Engine power cars need the grill for air to flow and cool the radiator.

Even the rims on most EVs are just like plates and hub covers painted silver/black, not stylish alloy rims like on their ICE counter parts. And the random green or blue accents. It was fun when EVs were scarce, but it's really getting old fast.

Although I'm not a fan of the front, MG should get the bigger battery variant to India especially considering that they've been contemplating on bringing a 500km EV to India for quite sometime now.

I am keen at this vehicle but this facia surgery is disappointing. Current one is majestic and even Astor has a good one!
I hope this doesn’t become a deal breaker when I make a purchase decision early next year.

Re: 2022 MG ZS EV Facelift with bigger battery revealed in Europe

This is exactly the kind of development cycle inn EVs I am hoping for. I do hope they offer this longer range option for Indian buyers as well at a suitable premium to the existing variant of course in the course of the next few years.

Where people earlier opted for higher power options of the same car, people will now shop for higher / lower range options when they shop for a particular model. I just hope they keep the premium sensible when / if they launch. If I were in the market myself, I’d definitely pick the longer range version if available.

2022 MG ZS EV facelift unveiled

MG has revealed the 2022 ZS EV facelift. The car gets a cosmetic overhaul along with a larger battery offering a much higher range.

The design of the MG ZS EV is based on the updated ZS that will soon make its debut in the Indian market as the MG Astor. The car gets a new front fascia that includes a blanked-out grille and redesigned headlamp clusters. While the rear is identical to the Astor, the EV gets different alloy wheels.

The ZS EV also gets an updated interior. The dashboard now houses a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and gets iSmart connectivity features.

Under the skin, the 2022 ZS EV packs a 51 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that is said to offer a maximum range of 317 km. There's also a 72 kWh version that has a range of 437 km on a single charge. MG claims that the 72 kWh battery can be recharged in 10 hours 30 minutes using a 7 kW AC charger, while a 100 kW DC fast charger can do the job in just 42 minutes.

Re: 2022 MG ZS EV facelift unveiled

On the design side, MG could have easily given in a shark fin antenna. Not sure what they were thinking. Its 2021/22 guys.

If 72KWH launches in India, I have my money ready. I even like the current one with the only issue being low battery range 250 -270KMs in real world.

Need to still see if the MG will go the way of Hyundai and omit the larger battery pack for India!
Interestingly even with a larger 51KWh pack the range is lower than the current one? Is that correct?

The range mentioned in thread post is on WLTP test on which the kona 39.2 gets 289km, not the 452km on ARAI.

The 317km WLTP range on 51kWh variant is higher than the present model with 44.5kWh which gets 262km on WLTP.
