Re: 2022 MG ZS EV Facelift with bigger battery revealed in Europe

The MG ZS EV facelift is the most expensive mass-market EV currently on sale in India. Here’s how it stacks up against the Tata Nexon EV and Hyundai Kona Electric.

The brochure doesn't show the features split between the variants. Is is the same as the outgoing one? The range has gone up to 461 km.

Excite seems like an excellent vfm buy.

Does anyone know the tax deduction under Section 80EEB is a one time affair of Rs. 1.5 lakh paid for interest or we can claim it for the lifetime of the loan tenure (like 5 lakhs spread over 5 years).

Re: 2022 MG ZS EV Facelift with bigger battery revealed in Europe

I went to the MG Showroom at Prabhadevi today to check out the ZS as encouraged by the dealer who sounded rather excited about the car over the phone earlier today.

Quick observations -

-Black looks majestic. I switched my booking from White to Black immediately. It looks insanely sleek this time around with the wheels adding considerably to that effect. Very elegant and minimalistic to the eyes.

-The interiors NOW look like a car later than 2020 unlike the pre facelift that looked a little obsolete. There is a red stitching too which adds to the experience.

- Overall quality is really premium, doors have a nice thud to them and everything feels expensive.

- Price increase OTR is estimated to be around 1.3L (Pre facelift was for 26.2 in October 2021, and unofficially stated by the dealer is an On Road of roughly 27.5)

- Infotainment screen is finally nice and legible unlike the previous one. It's slick to use and the 360 degree camera has a 2D and 3D mode as well.

- 7 inch MID is a great addition, although the menus are yet a little small, when there actually is space to accommodate larger text.

-It's great to note that they haven't removed physical switch gear for essentials like air-con and audio volume. There's also this useful "Home" button to drive you out of menus directly, small but significantly useful.

No test drives possible for 1 week. And 15th March they get the first set of allotments which is said to be minimal in number, and April will have a healthy bunch of cars coming in (when I expect mine to come).

Govt is allowing it year on year basis. So similar to home loan, one can claim deductions for 2022-2023 only. Also note that this tax deduction is only for this year and may not be applicable for next 4 years.

I will be visiting the showroom this weekend and see it in flesh to determine the changes from 2021 to 2022.

Excite variant looks an afterthought to me. Its nowhere in the brochures and MG decided to include in at the last minute. Even then, its a good addition and now if 73KWH battery is also launched in both Excite and Exclusive variants, MG has my cheque book open.

There aren’t any subsidies even now. Subsidy is limited to vehicles with a maximum 30KWh battery capacity and a price less than 15 lakhs.

It should be launched by the end of the year and would include ACC as unofficial confirmation by senior sources.

Seems like 1.5 lakh total.

From this article on Economic Times

- total exemption of 1,50,000
- for loans sanctioned between 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2023.

Indeed. Not just the Excite variant, but the decision to keep the prices unchanged seems to have been taken after seeing market reaction to "leaks". My SA clearly told me that there was no Excite variant during their training and a price hike of about a lakh was to be expected.

The facelift and pricing is bang-on! The black in-person is drool-worthy (though I'm a sucker for black cars in general ) I'm sure MG will launch an "Exclusive (O)" or "Savvy" variant down the line for the missing ADAS functions.

If our family garage didn't have Ares (2022 Astor) already, my brother's EV plans would have been put on hold to ditch the Nexon EV for ZS-EV.

This is wonderful pricing from MG. But, the front facia looks quite odd and is a turn off, except may be in black.

Battery has gone from just 48kwh to 50 kwh. Meanwhile 30hp increase in power is not so insubstantial. That's a 21% increase in motor power with barely a 5% increase in battery capacity. Surely, its not that much heavier, especially considering the same car is sold abroad with a long range 70kwh battery option along with a 150hp engine which is advertised as having 8.2 seconds 0-60mph time. I think the Indian facelift version might be noticeably faster.

MG website currently allows booking of Exclusive variant only, I hope the Excite variant does not end up being a ghost variant like other manufacturers these days practice.

Aren't they still road-tax exempt? This alone is huge, especially in KA.

Excite goes on sale from July 2022 onwards, I am assuming they would begin online booking acceptance for excite from the same month. Alternatively, one can head over to one of their showrooms and make the booking in advance.
