Re: Toyota unveils 16 Electric vehicles. To be market ready between 2022 and 2030.

Toyota promotes ‘Electrified Diversified’ in new marketing campaign.

Toyota is aiming to achieve zero emissions by offering customers a host of different eco-friendly powertrains.

Unlike many of its rivals, Toyota is proud to offer a host of different powertrain options for consumers to choose from, including battery-electric vehicles, hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and fuel-cell powered vehicles. The campaign highlights many of the brand’s popular models, including the Tundra Hybrid, Sienna, Prius, bZ4X, and the Mirai.

Re: Toyota unveils 16 Electric vehicles. To be market ready between 2022 and 2030.

Toyota reveals cutting-edge electric vehicle production line in Japan.

The new demonstration line includes the giga press and facilities for solid-state battery development.

One of the highlights of the new line is the giga casting technology at its Myochi plant, which the brand announced in June 2023. Giga casting refers to the use of large, single-piece castings for major structural components of a vehicle to reduce weight, improve structural integrity, and streamline the manufacturing process.
The brand has apparently honed casting technologies from engine manufacturing. With giga casting, the lead time for mold change will reportedly reduce from 24 hours to just 20 minutes.
The carmaker will also use a proprietary analysis technology to improve the quality of the castings to reduce the number of defective products. Moreover, Toyota's new modular structure for EVs (pictured below), and self-propelled production will account for half the process and plan investment on the new line at the Motomachi plant in Aichi prefecture.
Toyota unveils 16 Electric vehicles. To be market ready between 2022 and 2030.-toyotathreepartmodularstructure.jpg

Toyota BEVs will use a three-part modular structure for the front, center, and rear which apparently "reduces processes and increases productivity." The automaker also highlighted “self-propelled conveyance,” where finished EVs will be guided through the assembly line with sensors at an “extremely low speed” to improve line layout and flexibility.

The brand also released an image of its solid-state battery development line. Toyota appears to be at an advanced stage of solid-state battery development and promised in June 2023 that its breakthrough will lead to a solid-state battery capable of delivering 745 miles range and recharge in just 10 minutes. It aims to bring its solid-state batteries to market by 2027-2028.

Even though Toyota continues to be the world's largest carmaker by volumes sold, its BEV sales are only a fraction of Tesla's numbers, and notably less than rivals like Ford and General Motors

Lexus to lead the EV for Toyota,

Lexus to unveil next-gen modular EV concept in October ahead of 2026 debut.

The Japanese automaker wants to adopt a “drastically changed production method” and a completely new software platform.

Lexus, the luxury brand owned by Toyota, will unveil a concept car at next month’s Japan Mobility Show that will preview the company’s next-generation EV which will adopt a modular body structure, as well as an updated battery that’s reportedly capable of offering more than 497 miles (800 km) of range on a full charge.

Quote:
the first of its next-gen all-electric vehicles will debut in 2026 and will benefit from a drastically changed production method and a completely renewed software platform, as it charges forward with its plan to become carbon-neutral.
Quote:
Furthermore, Toyota said that the fast charge time will be reduced to approximately 20 minutes for a 10 to 80 percent top-up, while a cheaper lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO) version will enable a driving range of over 372 miles (600 km) all while costing 40 percent less than the pack that’s currently fitted to the bZ4X.
Quote:
expect Lexus-branded EVs to adopt the same manufacturing strategy, as well as the planned solid-state batteries that are slated to arrive in 2027 as a first-gen product that will enable a driving range of more than 621 miles (1,000 km) and top-up from 10 to 80 percent in just 10 minutes.

Looks like until 2027 we will get press releases from Toyota every 2 days, hope the EV division works harder than the PR division.

Hydrogen seems to be a disaster now costing 36$/kg in California, most stations have no hydrogen. All the Mirai's waiting for the lease completion just to be returned back, read that Mirai owners are preparing to suit Toyota. Strange to see Mirai as the lead car of the electrified cars.

Toyota to triple EV output as it chases Tesla, BYD.

Automaker notifies parts suppliers of plans to produce 600,000 units in 2025.

- Toyota Motor plans to triple electric vehicle production in 2025 from its 2024 plan

- The production target for 2024 is set at 190,000 units. Toyota sold 24,000 EVs in 2022.

- Toyota's production target for all vehicles in 2023 is over 10 million units, including about 150,000 EVs

- For 2025, the company aims to produce 11 million vehicles, meaning EVs would make up 5% to 6% of all vehicles.

- Toyota's EV sales in 2025 will be "around 800,000 units, including OEM sales.

- Toyota is rolling out a new EV Hilux model in Thailand as early as this year and electric SUVs in China and the U.S. next year. And an electric Lexus ES model is slated for release in Japan in 2025.

- It is also jointly developing EV versions of mini commercial vehicles with Suzuki Motor and subsidiary Daihatsu Motor

-In the U.S., batteries for the EVs will be primarily produced at a dedicated plant scheduled to start operations in 2025.

- Toyota will also procure some batteries from Chinese battery leader Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL), and China's top EV maker BYD. It is also in negotiations to procure from South Korea's LG Energy Solution.

- Toyota plans to introduce a next-generation EV platform starting with Lexus models sold in 2026. It will adopt giga casting equipment that can mold aluminum into vehicle chassis parts, saving time, money and labor.

- Toyota hopes to sell 3.5 million EVs in 2030, of which 1.7 million will employ the new platform.

-The company's overall strategy is to value all power sources, including gasoline and hybrid vehicles, rather than bet its future solely on EVs

Seems like quite the climb-down from Toyota's earlier stance of sticking to hybrids because of their notion that BEVs aren't mature yet.

Toyota is the most conservative of all car makers, if they are moving to EVs, then it means that EVs are the future. Honda should really take note!

More like a future Ford Maverick rival. This looks much smaller than the Tacoma and could possibly preview the Toyota Scout that is rumoured to be launched against the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santacruz.

Re: Toyota unveils 16 Electric vehicles. To be market ready between 2022 and 2030.

Toyota forecasts 30% EV sales in Asia by 2030, but target remains carbon neutrality.

Toyota Motor Asia Pacific’s (TMAP) president and Asia deputy CEO Hao Quoc Tien revealed that Toyota estimates by 2030, between 20% and 30% of its sales in Asia will be EVs.
The numbers will vary from country to country – he singled out Singapore to have very high EV adoption, Thailand around 25%, while others may be lower, mainly due to the lack of charging infrastructure.
Quote:
Toyota’s long-standing position that EV isn’t the only way forward, as the ultimate target continues to be achieving carbon neutrality, not an EV-only future. “Let’s say we do get that 30% (of EV sales in Asia), if we don’t (also) improve the other 70%, our carbon neutrality goal will be missed
Quote:
It’s not all about EVs – nothing wrong about EVs, I think the technology is really good – but there are real limitations (for now). Maybe in another 10 or 20 years, the EV percentage will be higher
Toyota is currently working hard to reduce carbon emissions across various technologies for the other 70% of non-EV sales, with what it calls a multi-pathway approach to sustainability. The company firmly believes that each technology has its role in helping to reduce carbon emissions.

Quote:
The multiple technologies in question here are: internal combustion engine (ICE, or your regular fuel-burning petrol or diesel motor), bio-fuel compressed natural gas (CNG), hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV), battery electric vehicle (BEV or EV) and lastly, hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV). Yes, each one has a role to play still.

Every little bit helps, Toyota says, and looking at all possible solutions instead of focusing solely on EVs is the better way forward.

On EV's:

Toyota can’t CKD EVs in all ASEAN markets – will use each country’s strengths to offer low cost EVs for all.

Quote:
We will still localise the components (but not all in one place). Maybe Indonesia will manufacture the battery, and perhaps Thailand can make the electric motor. Then, another country can assemble the battery, and together we can all enjoy a low cost EV
Quote:
In basic terms, Toyota plans to use each country’s own strengths to its advantage, ultimately to offer more affordable EVs for all ASEAN markets. Major countries will get some (though smaller) investments, keeping everyone happy

Re: Toyota unveils 16 Electric vehicles. To be market ready between 2022 and 2030.

Toyota presents the FT-3e C-SUV at the Japan Mobility show.

FT-3e -The use of "FT" letters refers to "Future Toyota" Going with "3" indicates this electric crossover is smaller than the bZ4X.

Main features

A next-generation BEV concept model that will enrich customers' daily lives with new driving experiences and personalized services powered by innovative technologies.
It also contributes to achieving carbon neutrality and creating a better world by connecting with society as a means of transferring energy and data from the vehicle and its environment.
Design
An exterior design that combines advanced style and aesthetics while keeping the lines and surfaces that make up the body as simple as possible.
Digital displays that run from the underbody to the upper door provide information, including battery charge, onboard temperature, and interior air quality as the driver approaches the car.

The all-digital dashboard has no fewer than seven screens, plus a head-up display.
External side screens in the doors that tell the driver and passengers the interior temperature, air quality, and the battery’s charge leve
Those squares embedded into the B- and C-pillars are presumably sensors for fingerprint recognition. Notice the charging port is mounted in the left quarter panel rather than on the front fender as is the case with the bZ4X.

Land Cruiser Se Badged ‘Landcruiser Se’, the maker says the seven-seat 4x4 concept offers the “high-torque driving performance unique to BEVs”. No further battery or powertrain information has been confirmed at this time.

This suggests that even in the electric age, the Land Cruiser will remain Toyota’s most focused and hardcore 4x4 model – sitting above cars like the electric bZ4x and hybrid RAV4.

Toyota unveils 16 Electric vehicles. To be market ready between 2022 and 2030.-toyotalandcruiserseconcept2.jpg

The design challenge of the Land Cruiser Se is different from other Land Cruiser models, both past and present. The model name reflects the strength of the brand and the history of Toyota's veteran SUV, emphasizing the interior space for every seat and smoothness throughout the journey.

Car body dimension

Length 5,150 mm
Width 1,990 mm
Height 1,705 mm
Wheelbase: 3,050 mm

The exterior lines are based on other Land Cruiser models, with the front using the logo as the brand name. TOYOTA, representing the three-loop symbol like other models, comes with a solid grille based on EV style, tapered headlamps as well as a rear end with LED bar lights throughout the entire width of the vehicle.

EPU Concept Tokyo concept car previews a next-generation electric pick-up, which will be smaller but more practical than diesel Hilux.

This is the silhouette of a mid-size pickup truck, powered by an electric BEV built on a monocoque platform in partnership with the next-generation Corolla.

Toyota has not yet compiled all the information of this prototype, except for the size figures and body dimensions as follows:

Length 5,070 mm
Width 1,990 mm
Height 1,710 mm
Wheelbase Length 3,350 mm

Comparing the dimensions and dimensions of the Toyota Hilux Revo Double Cab, the EPU is 255 millimeters shorter, 155 millimeters shorter, but 90 millimeters wider, and has a longer wheelbase of 265 millimeters.

Using a monocoque or unibody platform, the Toyota EPU has no seams between the cabin structure and tailgate, much like the Hiux Revo.

The interior of the cabin emphasizes on versatility and usable space. The gear control panel is shift-by-wire, mounted on the center screen. This makes it no longer necessary to have a center console. The front console is also designed to look like an additional tray.

The Toyota EPU Concept will be powered by 100% electric drive (BEV), as evidenced by the installation of a charging port on the sidewall above the front wheel arches, BEV logo on the lower end of the front doors, as well as a long wheelbase.

Toyota’s plans to offer cars with 500 miles or more by 2026, we can safely assume the EPU would sit among the longest-range electric vehicles in its class.

From all the hype created around H2 cars by Toyota, it now believes that H2 cars is not practical for personal cars and can only be used for commercial vehicles.

I am sure by 2030, Toyota will also realize that H2 is not practical for even CVs.

Hybrids are 100% fossil fuel powered, so they are not part of multiple clean transport pathways.

Toyota and Japan is hoping that solid state battery becomes a reality. Toyota is throwing money in all directions in the hope one will click. Just like most venture capitalists do. With 70 billion $ as cash reserves, they can chase any technology and then buy the majority stake in Suzuki, Subaru, Mazda & Isuzu and still be left with a huge amount.
