As Shresth_EV mentioned, ZipTron Box is nothing but a splash resistant Legrand wall box with couple of MCBs and an ELCB. Charging speed is same as any regular 16 A Socket.

1. I got mud flaps and basic rubber mats with the car. No additional charges were taken from me.

2. I got buy back value of ~3200 Rs per tyre. It is on lower side. See if you can negotiate for more.

Congratulations on the acquisition! Wish you unlimited happy, safe & FAST miles with the car. These EVs are mighty fast from the word go thanks to the immediate peak torque delivery. Recently I tried to play chicken with a Nexon EV on the highway with my old-school diesel Nexon and boy was I left scarred for life !

A tip - if you are one of the few folks who don't honk while driving at all (like me) - please change that habit a bit and start giving a short honk at turns / running close behind someone for some time without overtake. This EV literally sneaks up on unaware road users (which are a majority on our roads). While we assume that they are aware of our presence, the others have no clue that a large/fast car is right next to them, till its too late.

You've taken your due time (seems you started writing a month ago) in compiling this exceptionally well structured and detailed review, and its evidently worth it. You've probably answered all the questions that people may have.

If I were someone at Tata - I'd use this review's 1st page as my marketing and sales leaflet. Rating your thread the well deserved 5 stars. Adding it to my "watch-list" for regular updates as my next car in all likelihood might be an EV (Already pushing away the urge to replace the Alto with a Tigor EV on a daily basis!). Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Reinhard.
The car is very silent and I have already added 'honking' to my skillset.
Silence becomes even more dangerous in narrow rural roads with lot of pedestrians.

Ideally EV tyres should have low rolling resistance to achieve higher efficiency. However, the MRFs in Nexon (Or Michelin Primacy in ZS) are plain normal tyres without any special indication of being LRR tyres.

Why did you change tyres on delivery ?
As I found during test drive, MRFs offered inadequate grip in mud / gravel roads. Checked with dealership and they confirmed MRFs are normal tyres and could be changed to the brand I wanted. Hence changed the tyres to Michelins immediately after delivery. Grip levels are increased and wheel spins are reduced significantly after tyre swap.
Good choice prassanna_indage. Wish you lakhs of happy kms!

It would be good to know how their stock / other tyres are faring, from the longterm EV owners on our forum. Given the fun that comes from instantaneous throttle response from stop to go, EV drivers might be wearing off their tyres quicker, as compared to ICE drivers. EV TCO calculations need to take this early tyre wear aspect into consideration.

This challenge is being acknowledged by tyre makers too (see https://arstechnica.com/cars/2021/12...nging-to-make/). And some tips here - https://zohr.com/blog/getting-the-mo...ur-ev-s-tires/

Mods: Please start a new thread on this topic if you feel that'd be useful.

Re: (Not) a problem of plenty | My Tata Nexon EV Review

Congratulations on arrival of a new companion! Excellent writeup on the car, appreciate your eye for detail. Indeed your choice is good when it comes to EVs as there are very few option in the current market and only TATA offers a good mix of everything in their product.

Hope TATA will try to hold this leading position in the long run...

Many congratulations Prasanna! Your thread will act as a guide for future Nexon EV buyers for sure. And boy do I envy you! You got the top variant that too dark edition! Even I had shortlisted the EV, and after subsidies the XM variant was within reach. However unless I had another car it would be difficult to justify an EV. And I cannot maintain 2 cars for sure.

I just hope Tata comes with a bigger Nexon, dimension wise and range wise so that I can upgrade when the time comes

Meanwhile will follow your highly informative thread, keep updating!

This is an amazing thread, especially with the details on how the car is doing while being treated as any other ICE car. Great write up. Eager to see how the car holds up in the long term.

I wish the Nexon EV came with a 500 km range, more airbags (6), a P mode on the gearbox. Thats my wishlist for the Nexon EV upgrade.

Re: (Not) a problem of plenty | My Tata Nexon EV Review

500km range would make it out of range for 90% of current buyers in India. This is as of today, in future, we can expect batteries to be less expensive and to have more density, only then this range would be achievable for lesser cost.

Don't forget another vital missing safety feature, electronic stability control. It is very unfortunate that this important safety feature is available on the ICE Nexon but has been removed from the EV. Cruise control is missing as well.

Thanks. EVs have higher toque figures across rev range.
This may not be a reason for excessive tyre wear. Tyre life should be similar to cars with similar torque, weight and power. Tyre life is in the ballpark of 20 - 30k in my terrain and I am happy if the Michelins return 30K+ kilometres. (Just to give reference, my Alto needs tyre change every 17 -18K kms )

Thanks. I wanted black interiors and that was available only in Dark. Maintaining black exteriors is a pain, especially in dusty areas. To add to dust, narrow roads in my place will have overgrown shrubs on both sides of road, which will create minor scratches on both sides.

EVs need more range if they are supposed to be primary / only car in the household.

For 500 kilometres of real range, battery need to be of more than double the capacity, considering current real life range is around 200 - 220 kms. This will increase weight and cost considerably. And I don't think P mode will be the physical 'pin' like in traditional TC / CVT boxes. It will be still a parallel to handbrake.

More airbags, ESP and TC are the need of the hour to make this car a complete package. Cruise control will make the package look even better.

Thanks. Also, I read in the Autocar article that the extended range Nexon will have batteries occupying boot space too.

Thanks. ESP and TC are sorely sorely. More number of airbags will be good too.
I see that the Michelins are better in managing the traction.

Hi, given the supply crunch, did you manage any discount at all off the list price?

Re: (Not) a problem of plenty | My Tata Nexon EV Review

It has been a wonderful month since this car came home. The car is at 1250 kilometres as of now and is being used everyday in all type of roads. Only charged at home so far and absolutely no issues.

Some observations :
  • Battery / BMS cooling will get activated at regular (not very frequent) intervals while charging.
  • Regen gets noticeably stronger below 25% SoC and even stronger below 10% SoC
  • Horn pad / buttons on the steering wheel could have been placed better.
  • Charging port hatch opening could have been integrated with central locking like Hexa. I always forget to open the hatch from inside and end up going around again to open it.

Also, our overall fuel expenses have come down drastically. I am sure there will be a significant spike in our electricity bill. Awaiting our first bill and will update here.

Wish the car could charge wirelessly !

Update : 40 days

As of now, car is about 40 days old and has more than 2K on the odometer. First service is over and was a fuss free affair. Re-torqued where necessary, fluid checks and a wash was part of the activity. Waited in showroom and got the car back in couple of hours.

Over the course of my ownership, identified couple of panel gaps in center console and found that roof rails were not snug fit. SC told that they will replace needed parts and have placed them on order.

Also, did a quick analysis of my fuel expenditure and electricity bill, which shows a significant reduction in fuel expenditure and a marginal increase in the electricity bill.

Please note : Nexon was delivered in second week of December and the calculations are as per credit card billing cycle.
