The report states that Oppo has already started the planning process for its EV, which could debut between end-2023 and early-2024. Technical details about the car itself are not yet known.

With the launch of its first EV, Oppo will join the likes of Xiaomi, Huawei and Apple, who also have plans to enter the electric vehicle space.

Oppo is a subsidiary of BBK, the world's largest smartphone manufacturer, which also owns other brands such as OnePlus, Vivo and Realme.

The first thing came into my mind was, Are they serious? Jokes apart. This seems like the traditional car manufacturers will have to face a tough time ahead when it comes to EV. I hope these EVs regardless of the manufacturers, won't end up like mobile phones in the near future. (Use and throw, updates in every six months) That will create another set of problems much more than the so called automobile pollution.
Next will be the horrendous electricity taxation. Sooner or later that will be imminent.
I still love the ICE powered cars. Only problem is that in our country, the fuels are taxed similar like a day light robbery.

I think you are spot on. The game is about to change. Those who make robust chips, bug free software and mastered on battery power savings will rule the car market. Just hope that unlike mobile phones, we are able to distinguish cars based on their appearance. Otherwise our roads will look horrible in near future lol:

The ultimate moment would be when, after IPL, every second shop and every third hoarding, even their car infotainment system shows Oppo and Vivo ads.

No, but on a serious note, when will companies stop this? It seems at this point, nothing more than stock-hyping tactics. Every time apple rumour mill talks about apple car, stock gets influenced.

At least one would say theirs car rumour mill has longer history and still more gravity than some Chinese brands like Oneplus and realme. It’s not a surprise though, they have have cash to burn and a pre-existing, “somewhat” loyal user base who they intent to grab by creating an “ecosystem”. You bought a xiaomi phone but today you can buy even a xiaomi e scooter or vacuum cleaner or air filter.

So why not extend it to cars — they think. “Only if it was that easy”, James Dyson chuckles, as he looks at the $500M he sunk in diversifying into EVs from vacuums.
